I think the Pride is drinking better right now. The Switchback needs some time IMHO.

IIRC release price at the winery was $52 so that is a good price if you like the wine.

Did you decant and if so how long before it opened up?

Kyle, I poped and poured. I dont feel its necc to decant at this point. It sure does smell good. My father was supprised he could smell the wine as I was pouring it and he was 15ft away.

P.S. It did have LOTS of sediment. I would advise standing it up a day or two ahead of time.

You won't be sorry Kyle. It is great stuff. My favorite Merlot over the last couple of years.

I have noticed this in many pride wines, both cab and merlot. They seem to have a lot of sediment; sometimes even little strips of grape skins. I guess it must be part of the winemaking style. It certainly doesn't affect the wine negatively; these are among my favorites gvein the pricing (especially the regular Cab at about $60 from the mailing list).

I had one last weekend at the Rutherford Bar and Grill. I was somewhat 'amused' to see the exact wine on their list for $50 (yes I paid $52 direct but if I knew a wine I was nearly begging to get was available, I'd have brought something else or have bought off the list).

Anyways, it was nice though I was pretty tired from a day hiking around Diamond Mtn (not winery related). Rutherford B&G was totally packed, with a different crowd than I'm used to (ritzy/local but still...)

I took half the bottle home and the sediment was a bit too much for me......I don't really like losing 2 glasses to grit. Not cool. Maybe the bottle got shook around in transport, but I didn't like pouring a quarter bottle of Pride Merlot down the drain.

Nice bottle of Merlot, very nice. Parker 93 points, a bit too many points for me. Still, a nice bottle of wine. Drink or hold, 91 points.
