| | Mike - What was the restaurant? And BTW, we went to Elway's for a sampling last week, and the food has great promise. Not at all disappointed. | | | |

Of all places, J. Alexanders. The one at County Line and I-25. Who'da thunk it?
I have heard the food at Elway's is very up and down, due to opening pains. The sous chef quit one week before opening day. My understanding is that they just try to make a certain dollar amount per glass of wine (I don't know what the amount is). But because of that, by the time you get to the $130 per bottle range, the wines can be priced less than retail.
I think I will give it a few months to get the opening pains out of the way, then visit. What are you doing in January and February?

Pop and pour is fine, though it does improve with time in the glass, so don't chug it.
It probably would not hurt to wait a few weeks to let it settle from travel shock though. Otherwise, it is ready to go, unlike six months ago.

| | Ant - I was at Pride last weekend and had some of this at the winery on their first tour. Had samples of both prior day and just opened bottles. Prior day did well, so I assume the decanted version would too. | | |

| | i will give it a go then a few weeks after i get them. i only bought 3 because i am not a huge fan of cali merlot. maybe this will change me. i can tell the 99 verite le muse we had at the 10-23 dinner in jersey was mostly merlot and i loved it. although it was made in a bordeaux style. | | | |

| | I popped this on 11/4/04 over at Fifth Floor. It's drinking so much better than it did in June. It's really come together nicely into an exceptional bottle. | | | |

| A magnificent merlot. I have difficulty rating it above its predecessor. I think the time to judge one against the other is in a tasting years from now. As for now, I'm buying whwnever I get the opportunity.

| I'm bachin' it this evening, and yesterday was my b-day, so I think I'll splurge and pop one of these all by myself tonight!
What would everyone recommend for a fairly simple food pairing? Red meat? Roasted chicken?? | | | |

| | go with a braised beef type dish. Braised oxtail was slammin with it last night. Something that has some viscosity. | | | |

| | Agreed - this is a great bottle of California Merlot. Not quite up to the 2001 (which has more of everything), but still a very fun bottle of wine. | | | |

| | not up to the 01? i sure hope so. the 01 i had 2 weeks ago was about a 92pt wine imo. i might of been a bit rough though considering there wasn't a bad wine within my reach. | | | |

| | It's more flashy than the '01 was at the same point. I think it's a point or two behind the '01 due to the noticeable difference in structure. Both are outstanding wines. | | | |

| | I popped open a bottle of the 02 merlot last night as my sister in law really enjoys merlot. Sadly to my palate, it tasted slightly corked. I have not previously had a corked wine from Pride, but I guess the law of averages would say that I was due. Interestingly, both my wife and sister-in-law enjoyed the wine. So go figure. | | | |

| | That's a good thing SWFLWino. I can pick up on a corked wine sitting on the table in front of me. It's a curse, not a blessing. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |
