just curious which wines if any are a must buy this time around?

at $150 per has anybody tasted the '01 from barrell or do i just buy based on the current
2001 EXCITMENT?

isn't there a new vineyard release from St Eden or something like that as well?

i had just e-mailed them to verify being on the list and i wasn't at that time because i did not buy the first time around but they said they would add me back on for this release, thank you!!

they mentioned it would go out this week offering the 2000 matriarch and 2001 single vineyards.

ANY HELP

There seems to be an enviable race by wineries to get the mailers out earlier this year?

Maybe they realize there's only so many $100+ bottles of grape juice that people will buy.

It is called CASH FLOW.

After a couple of years where sales have been relatively tough plus the excalating costs of business (worker's comp is the most notable) they need to get those dollars flowing in to pay the bills.

Since I did not buy the initial release, it will be interesting to see if I was dropped from the list.

I too didn't buy off the first mailer. Can't wait to see if I get the next one.

Thanks AJ.

Here's some info that may help others in my position...

I was on the list last year, but for a variety of reasons I chose to not purchase from that first mailer. I was, like many, curious to see whether I would be dropped from this year's offering.

Using my change of address as an "excuse" to call, I gave them a ring. They processed my change of address, and I asked about the status of the current offering. They said the letters went out yesterday and for whatever reason, I had NOT been included in the mailer this year.

However, shortly after I got off the phone I got a message from them thanking me for my interest in Bond, and saying that they would send me an offering tomorrow.

Now, I don't know whether I was intentionally left off this year because I passed last year, or if it was just an admin mistake. But if you passed last year, and don't get anything this time around you may want to give them a call.

...just FYI...

According to Pyang over on WS, the mailer is out:

Bond
2001 - 6-bottle case (2 each Melbury, St. Eden & Vecina) @ $1,050 - Limit one case per customer

Matriarch
2000 - 6-bottle case @ $330
2000 - 3-bottle case @ $165

Painful....

If those are the correct offers, that's where my pain lies. I'd love to try the Bond. I am sure it is good stuff. But $1K ante is too steep for my blood. I balked at having to spend a minimum of $700 at Kistler to place an order. It's not like I haven't spent $1,000 on wine before, but I sure would like to try a bottle or two before having to spend that much money. I guess Harlan is going after a much higher end clientele than I.

$175 a bottle!?! Ouch.

Too rich for my blood - unfortunately. Will take solace in reading TN's when the first brave soul cracks the seal on one.

Based on my past tastings of Bond wines, I'm hard pressed to purchase these wines at $175 a bottle. They argue the high prices are justified because the wines are made by the same team as Harlan Estate. The problem is the wines are not coming from the Harlan Estate vineyards. Simply put, Bond is not anywhere close to Harlan Estate. I'm not buying Bond.

I have not been home, but I am not holding my breath on receiving a mailer, since I did not buy last year.

What's the worse they can do to me, cut me back from one bottle of '01 Estate to zero of the '02?

Mike
