One of my suppliers just recently received and is now offering the following three bottlings for sale:

Château Garraud, Lalande de Pomerol 2000 $29.99/bt, $27.00/6, $25.50/12

Château de la Bridane, Saint-Julien 2000 $29.99/bt, $27.00/6, $25.50/12

Château La Croix de St Georges, Saint-Emilion 2000 $31.99/bt, $26.50/6, $25.00/12

Does anybody have any experience with these wines and whether the prices are OK?

Thanks.

the way i said the first part of this post in my head, "one of my suppliers..." sounded like someone talking about their drug pusher. sometimes i wonder about us .

i'm sorry, idon't have any experience with those wines, hence no relevant information.

gfleener, funny you should say that. My brother is starting to get into wine. I've told him on several occasions "Don't get bitten by this bug that has bitten me. Start using drugs instead...their cheaper!"

skip the first two. there is going to be plenty of excellent 2000 bordeaux avaiable in that price range. do your homework and use parker's barrel sample ratings. everything i have tasted has been at the higher range of his scores.

now for the la croix de st.georges. parker has it listed as a pomerol. i see no listing for st.emilion. if it is the pomerol, he gave it a 92-95, after originally giving it an 88-90. the price then almost doubled.. if it is the pomerol, grab all twelve. their production is very limited.

Thanks for the info ojeffso2. I didn't buy any of the 2000's on futures so now I'm kind of anxiously waiting for them to appear on the open market and ready to jump. Cooler heads prevail, huh?

I'll verify tomorrow that the le Croix de St. Georges is a Pomerol versus a St. Emilion. If it is I'll order at least a half case, pop one (as I always do) and head back fast for more if it measures up.

Thanks again.

Here is the response on the St. Georges from my pusher:

"Chateau La Croix de St Georges is a St Georges St Emilion. (There is also a Ch. La Croix St Georges, Pomerol). When I was in Bordeaux late March 2001 tasting the 2000 in barrel, this wine was mentioned to me from several of my contacts in Bordeaux at the time as one of the super-values of the vintage. I subsequently tasted it and agreed that I should get as many cases as I could!"

Anybody have any additional comments on these?

Thanks.

try one bottle, but be warned. you will need to open and decant for many hours. drink the wine over two nights.
