| How about an excellent vintage of Chateau d'Yquem for less than $200 (and half-bottles under $100)? Yquem's 1998 is reputedly even better than the outstanding 1996 and 1997 vintages. But then, when was the last time d'Yquem didn't produce a great wine?
The Chateau never allows press or trade tastings pre-release (why would it?), but here's what Chateau d'Yquem says about its superb 1998:
"beautiful, slightly golden colour…after several minutes of aeration, the bouquet reveals citrus, raisin, and floral (delicate linden blossom) aromas. The wine also shows great potential on the palate…quite round and proceeds to fill out beautifully. What sweet, soft, pleasure - mandarine orange, apricot with toasty vanilla overtones."
1. 1998 Chateau d'Yquem $189.99 net 2. 1998 Chateau d'Yquem 375ml $94.99 net
