| So if you haven't heard, a label called "shelter" has 3 2005 cabs out : "27-29", "headwater" and "Butcher" for $45, $60, and $75 respectively. There is a rumer that these are left over grapes from Harlan, Foley, or some other cult wine. They say that the wine maker and winery made retailers sign documents to not release who made the wine. There are scores on cellar tracker in the Harlan/ Screagle point range. This is either a super find, or a very clever marketing scam. It's basically like getting Harlan for $60. Anyways I saw that Jamie Kutch had tried there Sauv Blanc, so I decided that this might be the real deal. I bought one of each of the cabs from america's wine shop.com here are some of the cellar tracker reviews. Anyone have any info on this at all? Did I get Duped? I appologize for the formatting.

Color; Deep Plum, very dark. Nose: Stron cedar and oak, dark red fruit. Palate: Very deep integrated layers of plum, cdear, oak, red fruit with a nice full mouth feeling and a long finish. This is just superb - I found it by reading the TN - and for around $40 this has to be one of the finest QPR I have come across in a long time if not ever. (114 views)

Well balanced, jammy, wonderful long finish. I am in love with this wine! Rumored to be leftover grapes of Harlan or Foley. Wherever the juice comes from it is spectacular. One of my all time favorites. (132 views)

Serious wine from an unknown winemaker. Seemed a bit austere upon opening. Nose with dark cassis and berries that developed a sweeter mocha aroma. Dark purple in color. Full bodied and complex in the mouth with a moderate to long finish. Tannins present but well integrated. If I had to guess on this one, I would probably say a mountain fruit producer such as Robert Foley. Given that I said this, I am probably not close at all. (461 views)

Decanted for 2 hours prior to the first glass and left remaining in the decanter for pour over the coarse of the evening. Customary 1 oz shot from the bottle prior to decant and no nose really because it was still chilly, but got a nice coffee bean on the first whirl and the texture was exquisite.
First glass I was getting a little pencil lead on the nose along with powder coco and on the palate the coco was more apparent. The first glass had little hints of green veggies as well but that disappeared after the first glass. No real heat at all as the tannins are perfectly integrated and the texture was one of the best feeling wines I’ve had. The rest of the evening, the chocolate bounced from light to dark with beautiful berry and hints of leather.
All of this from a YOUNG bottle of wine. It’s got a ton of life left and this is just one of the wines that must be had for Cabernet drinkers. (538 views)

Delicious wine; popped and poured. While the maker apparently wants to remain anonymous, the grapes are obviously high quality. (625 views)

Heard about this wine from a friend who said this comes from extra grapes from a Napa cult vineyard made by a famous Napa winemaker. (Retailers of this wine have to sign a disclosure not to reveal who the wine is made by) HHMMMM!!!, At $40.00 a bottle why not. Picked up 3 and popped one the day it arrived. A litttle skeptable at first, BUT....for the price, this happens to be one of the best bottles of wine I have ever tasted. Huge fruit, silky tannins, just fantastic!!!!!. Folks, pick up as much as you can. There are 2 other Shelters that will be out soon, Watershed $60.00/bottle and The Butcher $90.00/bottle. (679 views)

| The agent of process for Shelter Winery is David Stevens of Acme Fine Wines. Acme use to share the same suite as Hourglass before they moved. Shelter now has the same address that Acme and Houglass use to have. It looks like some kind of venture between Acme and Hourglass.

| | Sounds interesting, would love to see some notes on the wines. I see that K&L has the Headwater in stock, I may try to get over there and grab a btl to see for myself. | | | |

| | Had the 27-29 a few nights ago. I thought it was akin to the better vintages of Mondavi Oakville, so I guess I was close. A tasty bottle of wine and worth the price. How it will age is anyone's guess, but tasty now. | | | |
