Some might remember my previous posts on this particular winery......

Just got the mailer for the 2005 release.  Times sure have changed.  This is a single sheet, tri fold order form.  $900 for 12 bottles.  Check out the elaborate tasting note:

"Typical of past vintages, the 2005 Pillar Rock exhibits elegance with a long rich finish"

That's all folks.

I'm trying to remember - you are always so reticent to talk about this winery....

LOL, Bob!

Interesting that they've brought their price down to where it might should have been all along. Of course by now, after ... what? ... six previous vintages of bumbling along with overpriced, overly-pretentious offerings that turned off anybody that might have been interested, it might be too late for this winery.

What an interesting case study in how NOT to market wine ...

Cheers, y'all

After a protracted thread on this board about how a winery can never lower prices, here's one that dropped $50 per bottle.  I predict that they will sell a lot more of the 2005 than they did of the 2002-2004 vintages, and may even rescue the brand in the process. I disagreed in the other thread that lowering one's price is a kiss of death.  It is the ONLY way to find what the market will bear for your product if you suspect that you were overly aggressive in your original price point.  Pillar Rock obviously was.

Past offerings have always included opportunities to buy "Library" (read: unsold inventory) Wines.  Can one buy past vintages again, and if so, what is the price for those?

I seem to recall that the winery was on the market. Anyone know if this is under new ownership?  The change in the mailer, not to mention the price, suggests that someone new is in charge.

Most importantly, anyone try this?
Beta testing a new signature.

As Stefania Wines (tlily) noted on a particularly good thread on Wino Depot these wines fall into the "Vanity Wine" category.
