After a protracted thread on this board about how a winery can never lower prices, here's one that dropped $50 per bottle. I predict that they will sell a lot more of the 2005 than they did of the 2002-2004 vintages, and may even rescue the brand in the process. I disagreed in the other thread that lowering one's price is a kiss of death. It is the ONLY way to find what the market will bear for your product if you suspect that you were overly aggressive in your original price point. Pillar Rock obviously was. Past offerings have always included opportunities to buy "Library" (read: unsold inventory) Wines. Can one buy past vintages again, and if so, what is the price for those? I seem to recall that the winery was on the market. Anyone know if this is under new ownership? The change in the mailer, not to mention the price, suggests that someone new is in charge. Most importantly, anyone try this? |
