| I'm still on the wait list, but it sounds like you have to buy the Sonoma wines even if you only want the Santa Cruz Mountains - is that correct?

| We popped our first Alesia Pinot tonight bacause I saw a few who disliked them. We had the 2004 Alesia Kanzler. While it was a bit rough on initial opening (no decanting...we were at a lower level restaurant)....it really opened up nicely near the end of dinner. This was far better than I would have thought based on some comments here...I'd give it 90 points....and will only improve with age. I'll wait on the rest of these another year....and I don't feel bad that I purchased a mixed case from the current mailer.

They aren't releasing anything new until March so buy both!! I love WO as well and will try to grab at least a case on next release.Â
I'm planning on picking up a case of this as well, just need to decide what to cut.

| I'm on the fence but just about to fall off and make a decision. I've been reviewing my notes and I've consumed 6 bottles. All bottles I show were Good, but none Very Good (I know I have a funky ranking system). In my book, $44 is a lot of money for a Good wine. At that rating, I can get the same quality of wine for $30.
Although I don't subscribe to Burghound, I've read references that he's reviewed the Falstaff and Green Valley. If you go to Cellartracker and search for Rhys 2006, that's all you see. No one that uses CT so far has purchased anything else. Which means to me, 457 bottles of wine purchased so far is strictly because of the points and not because of prior vintage, prior tasting notes, recommendation etc...
OK, I've made up my mind. Pass. | |

| Rhys actually has a very strong following. They attempt to make wines in a distinctive, more Burgundian style. Whether they will succeed is anyone's guess.
I am "enjoying" an '03 Alcina Pinot tonight. Yuck! I am tired of acting as a guinea pig while a new winemaker tries to learn how to make wine (not necessarily a stab at Rhys). | | | |

Yeah - this is my problem. I signed up for the Rhys list, not the Alesia list. Turns out I've graduated from the wait list and been granted what looks like a fairly big allocation - 0/0/0/3/4/5 But from the sound of it if I want to ever get any Rhys I have to buy something that I don't want now.
If that's true it's the first time I've seen a hostage mailer from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Not a good trend.

Not sure if you will lose your RHYS Fall allocation if you don't order the Alesia lineup. So "hostage mailer" MAY be an overeaction.
I would email RHYS and find out. They're pretty open.
You know, the Alesia wines are pretty damn good too!

| | Got an e-mail today that said offer expires on Feb. 10. As stated by several folks above, the Alesia Pinots I have had have been good, not great. Typical, not unique. I signed up for Rhys. If I get bumped from Rhys because I didn't bite on this, I can live with that. But $44 per bottle is too much for an ordinary Pinot that will live in my cellar for several years to allow its cold climate acidic shell to shed. | |
