| | My first time on the list. Is this a no-brainer? From reading ebob, sounds like it. I have never tried a R-M and I'm quite sure I signed up only because I'm a lemming. | | | |

| | Thanks, Eric. One last question....would you compare them in style to any other producers? | | | |

| I agree that it is a no brainer, but perhaps I don't have a brain. I'll probably come to regret this, but my buying strategy for 2008 is to drop wines that offer small allocations and focus more on wines that I can buy in larger volume. I am constantly frustrated by the "last bottle" syndrome, and when you only get one or two bottles of something, you are down to your "last bottle" very quicky. In the case of the Old Vines here, you are down to it immediately. So if anyone wants to add to their allocation by taking mine, or if anyone wants to try this for the first time, let me know. I will PM my log-in information and you can fill everything out, using your credit card and shipping info. This is really good stuff, but my desire to avoid singletons and doubletons leaves me with little choice. It is still only January and I refuse to break my New Year's resolution so soon. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

I was just typing a similar post. I find 1 or 2 bottles of any one wine frustrating for the reason Jimmyv states above.
Not to rip solely on Rivers-Marie as they are only one of many producers going down that route. In fact it is a pretty long list. I won't play no matter how much I like the wines.

| | I am of course buying every bottle offered, but I agree with the prior two posts. Rivers-Marie and Alban are the only wineries that I still buy from that offer less than 3 bottles per wine. With Rivers-Marie it is especially painful. I bought 3 bottles of the '02 and '03 Old Vines and 6 of the '04. The last two vintages it has been 1 bottle per. In their case, they are dealing with overwhelming demand (after the Burghound reviews) by giving everyone the same allocation. It is hard to fault them for that. My guess is that unless production increases they will still have a 5-10 year waiting list. | | | |

| | With such a small production of the OV (62 cases I believe) one bottle is a whole lot better than none, and I am plenty happy to have it. When there isn't enough to go around, what's a producer to do? | | | |

| | They can react either by giving 54 bottle allocations to the early adapters (like KB) or by spreading it out equally as far as it can reach. I am not surprised that Thomas Brown took the latter approach. I certainly understand that argument of rewarding your early supporters, but it's sort of nice to give everyone a chance to try a sought after wine. He has certainly been generous in sharing the minuscule production of the '05 OV at tastings.  | | | |

| I'm torn between R-M and Freeman. Neither will ship direct, unfortunately.
I can't afford both. Right now, I'm leaning toward R-M.

| My allocation on this wine is the same as most of you. I would like more but I'll buy what I can get (which I did last week).
One consilation is that I think these wines should sit for at least 18 months before opening.

18 months ... I'd have to have amnesia in order to keep my hands off at least a couple of them ...
