| Pbubba also states that "I had bought three out of the past four vintages but was still on the second tier". He missed a vintage, so why does he feel justified that he should be offered the Pinot? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
WIML, what's the story here? | | | |

| Is there a 3rd tranche? I still have no offering as of today. Ordered from the ‘01 and ‘02 mailers, but I had to skip the ‘03. | | | |

| I'm late to this thread but I gotta put my 2¢ in even if it is throwing more gas onto the fire.
I was lucky enough to grab a bottle of this stuff in November. I wanted it for an offline I had a week ago where most of the people were BurgHounds. I had no idea what it would taste like.
I decanted it for two hours and served it by itself non-blind. We had just finished a flight of 1985 DRCs and sitting on a wonderful nice cloud (at least I was)... and now a young, untried, CA Pinot--talk about a loaded gun. Well, the stuff was absolutely delicious; among the top five CA Pinots I have had. Sure, I know I am somewhat, no, very biased but out of 10 other winos there only one said it wasn't his "style". All of the others thought it was an "exceptional" wine.
I got allocated three bottles which I immediately signed up for along with my six cabs and I am delighted that I got that. This will be a wine that I take to offlines shooting for WOTN. And the fact that it is so scarce will be all the more fun sharing it with others not as fortunate.Â
Let me say this to those people who aren't able to score this or for that fact other difficult to obtain wines... been there, done that. It wasn't that long ago when I was excited because I could actually get a bottle of Silver Oak right from the winery without paying outrageous auction prices. A lot of the fun (and heartbreak) of this hobby in the beginning is the "hunt" for those wines that all the old guy could buy but little ol' David was locked out of. One of the greatest joys of an on-line community was getting to go to offlines where maybe, if I was quick enough, I could get an ounce of Kistler, Rochioli or William-Selyem (gee; a hyphon) wines. And the most glorious moments was when I was able to SCORE a bottle for my little cellar. I remember putting my one bottle of Rochioli Pinot on a pedistal so that it would stand out from the Mondavi and Jordan Pinots. I still have an old bottle of Byron that was among my treasures.
Anyway... be patient... and don't burn bridges. This is advice for everything in life.
This isn't exactly what I started out to say but... WTF

| I know what you're talking about with Rochioli on pedastel. I think I'm FINALLY going to open the lone 04 I got when a friend comes up to visit in Feb!!! | | | |

| Sorry for the thread drift, but I can attest to the Rochioli pedestal desires. The best bottle of Pinot I've had so far was the 2002 Rochioli Little Hill! It's what every other pinot aspires to me......for my taste...
Wow....David.....that's some high praise for this Bressler dudes Pinot! Maybe he should just dump the Cab altogether and shift focus??

| | Yes indeed. Wine acquisition is a funny sport. One can wait for years to be offered a "Holy Grail" wine.  And then after you make the list, you find that you are now offered way more wine than you could ever buy or consume. Your quest for a couple bottles of the good stuff results in offers of thousands of dollars of wine every year. Thank goodness for sites like this where we can match supply with demand. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| Am so glad I found this forum to help me sort out wines to really 'aspire to' and those that may have been hyped well beyond their worth. And my incredibly generous friends who at offlines have shared wines I would never have an opportunity to obtain. | | The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits... ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon. | |
