What jerks.

I have been in contact with these folks as I have been attempting to buy a few cases of wine.

Their web site does not in most cases list vintages.
Ratings are by some customers, who can't even write a taste note,
They do not display whether a wine is in stock or not.

When I called them, they said that stock was too volitale [hope it doesn't blow up], that the wite wines the vintages change too often [like more than once a year], and that if I ordered a wine, I get what they have in stock, even if I ordered a vintage.

They do not offer a case discount for any item that ends in 7.  Hey, most of their prices do end in 7 on-line.

Back to the old stand bys, goodbye Total Wines.

Total Wine is on the BevMo model, but without the web infrastructure to support it. They have ~40 stores, so it's hit or miss. I used to go to the one next to Chapel Hill and was impressed with the large selection (considering it's NC), but underwhelmed by the knowledge of the guys working there.

They don't like to do business with small, passionate suppliers so most of their inventory tends to come from big distributors.

The TW in Delaware is fine when buying daily drinkers. Good selection. Good prices.
However, once the price of the wine hits about $25-$30 or more, their prices skyrocket.
They're currently asking $53 for Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch chard.
I do not buy 'good' wine there.

Budman...

My sentiments exactly. A very close friend of Mrs. T and me is Total Wine's head buyer at their headquarter office in Potomac, MD. He knows I'm on a gazillion mailers and doesn't try to entice me into his stores. I'll need him however next June when daughter T-Rep is getting married and I'll need his assistance on getting good prices/discounts for the wine for the event.

Total Wine used to be my go-to place to buy Quilceda Creek (with the case discount the '02 and '03's were cheaper than buying from the winery).  They have jacked up the price on the '04's so that's out now.  Bargains are rare ('01 Sauternes were an exception).

Its rare that I buy wine at Total Wine anymore (beer yes) - even though they have a store quite close to me. I have bought QC there before (not recently). They used to offer discount coupons on the order of $30 off for each $150 bought (something like that - now its less) and I used to sometimes take my coupon and buy a bottle or two (such as QC) that reached the total and always felt I got a good buy. Now, besides beer and an occasional impulse purchase - I only tend to buy my Beujoles there.
