Does this winery actually sell out at those prices?

Totally agree, Hobbs used to be a favorite, now I buy only in top vintages if that. Such a shame, but someone out there is buying this stuff.

I used to buy.  Now, out of my league and out of my tasting diferential.
Insane confidence in their product with their pricing. Used to be worth it.  Not now.
As I recall, the barrel tasting, it was smoky oak with that bit of california sulfur to it.  Maybe some of you hear me when I say califronia sulfur?  It is a volcanic, deep smoke, almost combustion.  As if an elephant had gas but no-one says a word even when it in the living room?
Is that desciptive enough?

Even if I thought these wines were worth buying, you can always find Hobbs at retail for significantly less (20% + less) than the mailing list prices.

Compared to Bordeaux pricing this is a steal....

(I wonder if that is how they justify their prices to themselves?)

The day was sunshine, clear and beautiful when I went to Hobbs.  Delightful, sippping taste of the barrels for the first time in my life. I'll never forget the delight  particpating and watching the method of how a vineyard produces it's belief.  The roses at the foot of each row and the reason, will be forever captured in my mind.

These vineyards and the people that particpated...unbelievable. They put their hearts and souls into their product and for that I am grateful because each of them gave me a moment in their lives.
The people, the place.

The richness, the beauty of it all will make me go back again and agin.
Yes, I think they are a little extravagant in their prices, but I will always buy just to hold the memory of that very perfect day.

Yeah, I know.  Yada yada yada.  But it was a true and good day and I will never forget it.
