Per the letter: (Snail mail)

GREETINGS FROM THE FOLEY COMPOUND

Once again it's Release Time and we have tons of news this year.

NEW LABEL - Those of you who experienced the winter release of our first Pinot Blanc bottling got a glimpse of the new Robert Foley Vineyards label format. The reds follow suit and under the guidance of our dear friend Ellen Riendeau the new label incorporates the Foley family crest in a more focused format. We hope you like it.

2005 CLARET - Our 2005 vintage produced some beautifully extracted red wines with superb balance. This vintage of Claret is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, opaque and ripe as can be. Aromas of super ripe black cherries introduce this big broad Cabernet and there are plenty of youthful chewy tannins to guarantee long graceful aging potential.

2005 PETITE SIRAH - The 2005 Petite Sirah combines ripe berry and crushed pepper aromas, as dark purple as wine gets. And for as dense and extracted as this Pet is, there remains a sturdy acidity to keep the wine vibrant and allow for a broad spectrum of food pairing possibilities.

2005 MERLOT - This being the 30th consecutive vintage that I have produced Merlot, we are introducing the first Robert Foley Vineyards Merlot as a varietal wine and if you've enjoyed ,he Meriots I have made in the past for other brands, this one will knock your socks off. Ripe berry aromas and a round rich mid-palate unfold in an explosion of fruit and vanilla flavors which resolve in an espresso-like finish.

2006 CHARBONO - We thank all of you Charbonophiles for expressing your enthusiasm for t.his varietal which I am personally so passionate about. Truly unique, sometimes gamey, sometimes overtly fruity, Charbono is like the winemaker's "box of chocolates". This vintage has given us more deep purple, grapey fruitiness and delightfully tangy acidity to offer a wide array of food-pairing possibilities.

2004 CABERNET SAUVIGNON HOWELL MOUNTAIN - This tiny production represents a new direction for us, a tribute to the wines we are growing at the new Foley Compound on Howell Mountain. This is truly the most densely packed claret-family red wine we are producing and while this bottling is so very small - only one barrel - we will slowly grow in this area as our vineyards become more fruitful. Small production, HUGE WINE. (Jan. 2008 by lottery only)

MORE BIG NEWS - We're getting ready to move the winemaking operations to our new Howell Mountain vineyard property which we call the Foley Compound. Happily, the move is a short distance, in fact just down the road. So in addition to Bob's work in the winery and vineyards and Kelly's work running the business, we'll be moving too. In a year or so we might even have some time to tell you more about it! - BF

Claret is $110/bottle, Petite Sirah is $50, Merlot is $50, Charbono is $35.

I'm in for Claret and Merlot, only question is how much.

Hasn't arrived here either.  I am really on the fence with this one.  I will likely pass.

My snail-mail came yesterday. I've pretty much stopped buying Cabs but this one is always tempting; maybe a few of the Cabs.

If anyone wants some I'd be happy to share. Only caveats is you must pay now and you (or your agent) must pick them up from my house soon after they arrive.

My allocation:

12/ Claret 750
1/ Claret 1.5 (I think I want this one)

6/ Merlot 750
1/ Merlot 1.5

6/ Petite Sirah

12/ Charbono 750
1/ Charbono 1.5

Guys, this is readily available from Robert Foley's website. No waiting, high allocations.  But, and this is the important point, you can't raid Bob Foley's cellar when you pick up your wine.  Seems like an easy choice to me.

Based on the 2003 Claret last night, I'll be backing up the truck on this offering. Dave is right, this wine is pretty easy to get right now, but not later.

I have no idea what Dave means by "this is the important point, you can't raid Bob Foley's cellar when you pick up your wine" ??????

When I click on his website (order form), I am not getting the most recent release. Am I missing something? Budman, did you get the mail letter?

Jeff... no, not yet. I emailed Kelly and asked her when the mailer went out. Apparently, they mailed some last Tuesdqay, last Thursday, and the rest on Friday.

Kelly was kind enough to attach a softcopy order form to the email!
I'm mailing it out today.

Dave aka the man whose jokes go thud....

lol   (i must be weird cause i like them)

He was joking that you can order the wine from the winery and pick it up or have them ship it, OR you can order through DavidN and his extras and then raid his (DavidN's) cellar when you pick it up from him.  first scenario you just get the wine, the second, you get the wine and get to "visit" DavidN cellar.  No such luck with Foley's cellar.  unless, that is of course, you know Foley.

i haven't gotten a letter yet... wondering if i should order since i will be hitting "clamp down" budget soon.  I haven't purchased (for me) or even tasted one (the claret) before.
