just got the 04' offer from screaming eagle. first time using online ordering which was easy and nice but...price blink.gif at least they kept the price same as last year smile.gif
this is what they said:

"The respect we have for the history here drives every decision we make. To this end, after careful evaluation of each of the blending components for the proposed 2004 and 2005 Screaming Eagle, we found that several lots lacked the necessary weight and complexity required for this wine. The result is a smaller production in 2004 and 2005, but wines that we believe continue Jean's legacy with confidence and pride. In 2006, the strict vineyard management paid dividends and the wines have an intensity and purity seen in the very best vintages of Screaming Eagle."

they should start doing 2 bottle allocations so I get to purchase 1 haha. Ricky + David, of the S.E.'s you've drank, what did you think compared to other great CA cabs?

I've had a grand total of two Screagles to date...both 1998. The first was at davidn's provided by David and it was good and the second was about a year later provided by GigondAss and it was d@mn good. Speaks well considering both were from a weak vintage. FWIW.

Ricky, I so want to party with you!  It's good to know that I'm not the only one that does that.  But I've never done that with SE.

I bought my 3 pack.

I've had several bottles.  I've run through my 1997s;  one was bad, one good and one fantastic.  This vintage is the only vintage that WA gave 100 to.

I've also had some of the 1998 and it was probably around what Parker rated it; 94 points.

I don't mind drinking that expensive a bottle if it is a special occasion.  I don't everyday but it isn't that unusual to pay $300 for a wine at a restaurant.  I do think twice about the new $500 price though.

To flip or not to flip?  That is the question. Â

How much would you pay for a two ounce pour of the 2001?  You get a little more than 11 two ounce pours out of a bottle.

It's tough to say. Getting a free 100% guaranteed return on S.E. is nice but it's definitely a cool wine to share with friends because not many people get to try it. I can see how people would want to pay $100 per two oz pour to get a taste of the eagle.

As for me, if you charge $50 for a 1oz pour and let me hold the bottle, I'm coming over! Wait, how small is a 1 oz pour? Will it evaporate before it reaches my tongue?

Under the previous administration the only way one could get a mag was at a charity auction (other than the one that "won" the auction flipping it).

In a year with a large harvest quite often after the vintner's deadline for getting back the allocations and there is still some allocations unclaimed there will be a second offering. I got six bottles of the 2001.

At the Taste of Howell Mountain event last year I had bid $2000 on a 2001 and I swear the auctioneer was lowering the hammer when some jerk in the seat immediately in back of me raised his hand and jumped in with a first bid of IIRC $4000. Man, was I deflated! So close! At 2g it would have been a steal. It's the smaller events like this there is a much better chance of picking up a "bargain" than those where they fly in whales.
