1999 Veuve Clicquot Brut Rose

At $49.95 from Premier Cru there shouldn't be any downside on this bubby other than who knows when it will actually arrive in the USA. It is a vintage Rose that is less than most NV Roses'. Parker (93 pts) and Tanzer (Raynolds 89 points) are apart on the ratings but the ones I had in the past have been ~90-91 points.

Yes, this is a very nice wine and a good value. I cleaned out my local grocery store, but unfortunately it was only 3 bottles worth.

Taittingers from Premier Cru - note that the 95 and 96 are IN-STOCK for $89.95.

1995 Taittinger Comte de Champagne only 14 bottles for the 95

The 1996 still looks stocked.

For comparison purposes (somewhat different styles) The 1995 approaches the 1996 Dom quality and the 1996 might exceed it.

Thanks!

I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland.

It's back at Premier Cru in-stock for $89.95. It is a better than average price for a great (95 pt +) champagne.

Since we are talking about Champagne deals, www.zachys.com is closing out the following for only $60.00. Check out the close-out link.

1995 - Jacquesson Cuvee Signature

"Assertive, powerful aromas of grain, ginger and grilled nut segue into tobacco and fig in this dry, mouthcoating Champagne. Has muscle, with an integrated backbone of acidity. Terrific length, with a tobacco and nut aftertaste. 93." WS 11/04

-------------------

I had this at a tasting a few weeks ago and was impressed. This is the cheapest price I've seen.

Rob - good post. The Jacquesson and the Chartogne-Taillet for $15 for a 375 are good deals.

1995 Taittinger Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne

Both the 95 and 96 Comtes are awesome with the 95 much nearer to being ready to drink than the 96. Drink the 95 and hold the 96.

Hola Winetex,

Alice and I attended a Champagne tasting last Monday in SF, couldn't help but think of you and skwid. Anyways, a couple of my favorites included: NV Philipponnat Royale Reserve, 1996 A.R Lenoble Grand Cru, 1996 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame, Krug Grand Cuvee, 1998 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne and of course my wine of the day ....... 1996 Salon .... simply awesome!!!

We picked up a bottle for our anniversary earlier this year, and it just wasn't as good as we expected. A friend suggested taht we may of had an off bottle due, our notes did not match his in any way. So we figured this was a great opportunity to try it again ...... completely different. Needles to say I drank my fair share of the Salon at the tasting.

I'll have to pick up a bottle for our next Wine Cask event.

I received an invite to that tasting but as you can imagine the travel time/cost made it undoable.

Bummer, it was a nice event with some great Champagnes. We took the day off from work and just enjoyed a beautiful day in The City. Maybe we'll see you at another event Jason!

There would be potential for me to be thrown out of such a tasting for drinking my "fair share".

For folks asking about vintage champagnes at OK prices check these out:

1996 Henriot Brut

$49.99
Here is what the website says (with the WS review):

It seems each month we get more and more calls for Champagnes from the vaunted 1996 vintage. While there are still good stocks of the pricier bottlings around, affordable 1996s are becoming scarce. Henriot is definitely one of the brighter lights in this star-studded vintage, so we were delighted when we found some more to sell and at a great price to boot. While this Champagne has opened up over the past two years, these Wine Spectator notes still ring true: “Racy, elegant and harmonious from start to finish. Candied citrus, honey and hazelnut flavors play out on a silky texture, and all is backed by a firm but unobtrusive structure. Lovely expression of the vintage. Drink now through 2010….94 Points.”

Sanderson's reviews are usually on the high side of mine but Tanzer gave it 92 pts in 2004 which was more interesting.  Note that I haven't tried this but I did buy some as it looks like a winner.

They also have the 1996 Duval Leroy for $47.98.  Other people liked this one a lot more than I did so it's worth a look as well.

They will hold wines until cool enough to ship for 4 months.

I believe you can't have too many 1996 champagnes.

No affiliation, just a customer.

Just noticed that Premier Cru has these in stock again:

This is a good "house" Champagne at a good price.  WIML has his bottles at 88 pts and I'm at 89 points on mine.  The style is more "Brut" than "Blanc de Blancs".  An easy drinker especially for people who don't often drink Champagne.  And not bad at all for those who do.
