| My first vintage 2005 purchase...let the cash bleed begin...
2005 was the birth year of my first child , so I will probably be going deep on some of the more age-worthy Cali Cabs (and BDX and port and Sauterns and Champagne and....  ). Monte Bello definitely fits that bill, so I was in here. Went for (6) 750's and (2) 1.5l's. | | | |

| Paul Draper's comments (1/06) sound promising:
"Yields of just over a ton per acre have resulted in one of our most concentrated vintages ever. Intense black fruit, a pronounced mineral component, and subtle floral notes, combined with rich tannins, give the 2005 potential for greatness. Though it is difficult to identify another vintage of similar characteristics this early on, the exceptional 1996 might come closest."

| | LOL. PC went from the bottom of my list to the top with the Christoffel deal. I tried a 2004 Christoffel Urziger Wurzgarten spatlese ($20 after a 20% discount) last night and it did not like it nearly as much as the 2003, which PC was offering for $7.99. Unfortunately, they are all gone. After a hot year like 2003, the 2004's seem very austere. The 2003 spatlese was probably more like a regular auslese or even auslese*. Now I am kicking myself even more for not buying more. | | | |

That's the way I'm already feeling about the decent quantity of '01 MB I bought. I'm almost certainly going to purchase at least a case of the '05 futures. | | | |

| A little too much discussion on wine boards and then somebody posted that they were about to run out, which certainly finished it off. Fortunately, I ordered some time ago although I had been thinking about ordering more. The large boards have really had an impact on the market for premium wines, both helpful and not-so-helpful. It's similar to subscribing to a really good investment newsletter that is read by 75% of the investors.
