Attention all champagne sluts...Supposedly, the 97 is excellent, just not exactly what the 96 is. The 96 is selling around $125 right now. Wally's in LA has the 97 for $84.99. I picked up some for myself and would like to spread the love.

Please let us know when you try some. 1997 was a good vintage, but, by all accounts, not up to the levels of 1995 or 1996. I think (and I might be in the minority) that the 1996's as a group are showing very well young (i.e., now) while the 1995's are obviously great wines, but a little rough around the edges still. Anyway, I'd bet a dollar that the 1997 Elisabeth is good, but won't impress the way the 1996 does(IIRC, you loved it like everybody else, BD).

Either way, $85 seems like a fair price, and I will definitely get some if I see it for that price. I can't ship (legally) to MD, so I usually see what I can get locally (Baltimore and DC) before I (cough, cough...ehem...) start looking elsewhere.

Exactly. Although, as a group, I don't think the '95s will ever be as good as the '96s.
