What year will be their first vintage? Site says coming in '07. Will they release their first wine in '07 or begin their journey in '07?????? If they release in '07 and its the '04 vintage, I would guess they are going for a grand slam on their first vintage. Pricing could get ugly.

I hear that they are looking at $150 as their opening price. This is almost certain to be a 'buy' for me -- I signed up for the mailing list at the suggestion of the former winemaker at Neal/current winemaker at Plumpjack.

I signed up for this last week as well. Mark Aubert is certainly a draw.

I agree that M. Aubert is a draw - what kind of wine is it? Cab, Pinot, ???

Winetex: Since it says "Oakville Appellation" on the website, it must be a Bordeaux blend or pure Cab. Land in that area is too expensive to justify trying to make and sell anything else. One would be foolish to try to break a new Pinot into the market using Oakville land and Oakville grapes when so much good land for Pinot can be found elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

Jimmyv - that's what I thought but just wanted to verify. If this is the case I can't see buying $150pb first vintage Cab or blend. But that's just me and my cab overloaded cellar...

Verifying I hear it is a Cab blend.

I phoned them last week for more information. From what I've been told, they plan on doing a single wine which will be a Cab with the possibility of some blending varietals. It may also be Cab exclusively.

The email they sent me said that they accepted too many pepole to their list and don't have enough to go around.

Maybe next year.

Thank you for your interest in Futo Wines.

We are currently putting together allocations for our inaugural release, the 2005 vintage of Futo. It has become clear that we do not have a sufficient quantity of this vintage to safely make an offer to everyone that has signed up for our mailing list. As a result, we will not be able to offer you an allocation this first time around. I genuinely apologize for this and look forward to offering you our wine in future releases.

Sincerely,

Joshua Lowell

Assuming a $150-$200 launch price, you're more than welcome to mine.

Looks like I was an early lemming and will get an offer. Stay tuned, as it is unlikely that I will be willing to put up with their IPO price.Â

Not all vintners are 'confused' about pricing. Maybe these guys will be reasonable.

Based upon Mark Aubert working with David Abreu, the pedigree doesn't get any better. To be honest, I'd be more interested in purchasing this than Harlan or L&M. I'm hoping finances ease a little in the next couple of weeks.

I got the e-mail, but I don't think I'll buy, regardless of the price.
My guess is that they'll come in around $ 200.00.

I have no idea how I made it on to this list, but I apparently will receive an allocation.  It's Cab, which I don't drink.  If anybody decides they want my allocation please let me know.
