I received an email today from Heritage Wine & Liquor here in Denver. They are offering the 1999 Phelps Insignia for only $67.99.

The email states that you have to print out the email and bring it in to the store, or call and they will hold it for you.

I am not sure if they ship, or if they will for this price, but if not and you can make payment arrangements I will be happy to pick it up for you and arrange for shipping.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM, and I will forward the email to you. If anyone is interested, I will be happy to call the shop Saturday morning to get details.

Apparently, there is enough interest, so I will make a phone call tomorrow morning and post further details. Even still, please send me a PM with your email address too.

More info to come shortly. I just got off the phone with them. Right now, they only have four bottles left, but they are checking with the distributor, it should not be a problem to get more.

They do not ship, but I will pick up what you want and we can work out the shipping arrangements for you.

That is a really good price. I am not sure how well this wine is showing, anyone sampled it yet? Is it worth this really low price?

I just heard from Dave Heller at Heritage. They only have four bottles on the shelf right now, but he can get plenty more, and will sell all at the $67.99 price.

Dave's phone number is 303-770-8212. Call and tell him you are a referral from me (Mike Bansek, for those who I don't know personally yet!). Tell him how many you would like. You can pay them directly for the wine (credit card, etc.). They do not ship. Tell him to hold the wine in the cellar for me, that I will call him late next week to make arrangements to pick up the wine. (I am going to Vail tomorrow, probably returning on Tuesday night).

Then send me an email or private message. Tell me how many bottles I should pick up for you. I will temporarily put them in my cellar, but will let you know as soon as I have them so we can make arrangements to get them to you.

For shipping, I do have a company FedEx account, but my discount is only 10%, so if you have a better discount...

I am willing to store as long as necessary, so if you happen to know any traveling winos that are coming to Denver, you can save shipping. However, bear in mind that since I am picking up the wine, they will (likely) charge the sales tax, which I think is 4.7%.

Order as much as you want, as long as he gets it, I will pick it up for you. Happy shopping!

And do not panic if you do not hear from me right away, but I will try to check as much as possible, especially today.

Thanks mike

While I bought my 5 @85.00/ and look foolish in face of your deal, I will buy no more. But what you are doing is one of the reasons this site is outstanding. Word of Mouth leads to Wine in Mouth. Kudos to you.

Thank you, Dr. T, for your kind words. I am very happy to share knowledge of any deals. This disease is expensive enough as it is, just trying to cut corners to afford even more.

Now, with the money I have "saved" (a phrase my wife loves to use), I am off to Lukas Liquor. BentheWineBerg sent me an email that they are closing out a number of wines. One example is the 97 Simi Reserve cab for $35, so I have to at least go check it out.

I got this disease real bad...

Holy Phelps, Batman!! That is quite a price!!! The 2000 crop must be getting ready to push them out the door. I know some shops that still have 10 cases of the '99 left but are still trying to push them at $99....I don't think they'll disgorge their inventory at near their present price.

I just got off the phone with Dave Heller a few minutes ago. He has not placed the order with the distributor yet, and will not until next week, to give everyone time to place their orders. The sale expires on February 22, just so you know. He mentioned receiving a lot of phone calls, and I know multiple cases have already been sold, so thanks to all of you.

He also wanted me to make sure everyone knows that he will not be in the store on Monday. So for those of you waiting until you get to work to make the call to avoid having your spouse find out (you know who you are), I would suggest calling him on Tuesday instead.

And by the way, he also told me I am hired! Now if only I can take my wages in the form of wine, at cost or below...

I also told him anytime he wants to place a similar type of deal to let me know, and I will post it here. We will discuss further next week!

here are parker's ratings on the last four insignia vintages and barrel on the 2000.

1996-92
1997-96
1998-91
1999-91
2000-90-92

if you wait, guess what you will be paying for the 2000. 4 of the last 5 vintages in the low 90's. 20000 cases a year. for $90-100 a bottle, you would be better of buying past vintages at auction or some 2000 bordeaux

The 93-96 is the Barrel rating. The 91 points is probably the bottle rating (and thus the "final" rating. Parker lowered a ton of 99 CA Cabs ratings from Barrel to Bottle. It does make one wonder what is going on. It would be interesting to see how often he lowers scores from Barrel to bottle.

that was his rating from barrel. he gave it a 91 out of bottle. of course, everyone feels he under rated the entire 99 california vintage. btw, i see many people using barrel notes when it is in their best interests.

Just to update anyone interested:

Dave Heller at Heritage said he would keep the price at $67.99 for as long as it is still available at the distributor.

Apparently, this is a distributor (overstock) issue, not a lone retailer blowing out his remaining stock. Davidandrose forwarded an email to me yesterday ffrom another local store, Lukas Liquors, that has these on sale for $64.99! Every couple dollars helps...
