I stumbled into the Morrell Wine Shop today and found a few auction gems --- unfortunately they seem priced into the stratosphere. Some examples:

1995 Araujo Syrah - $270
1996 Araujo Syrah - $170
1999 Dalla Valle cab - $195
1998 Screaming Eagle - $1,195

However, I did see a couple that may be decent. Would you consider these?

1999 Etude Cabernet - $80
1999 Falesco Montiano - $50 (decent price)

For anyone interested, they also got a truckload of Turley Zinfandels going back to 1997 (most vineyards I believe). Most of them seem to be priced around $80 or so.

Thanks, but I'm not a buyer of Turley.

What about the Araujo Syrah? Where is the auction market on those bottlings (and more recent vintages)?

Jones, got any 1995 Turley? (Especially Black Sears or Moore Earthquake). Maybe zap me an email if you get the chance...

I love Turley but I just get so much I sell off the "lesser"s bottlings.

The 95 and 96 prices for the Araujo Syrah have come down with the market. 99 hasn't been in circulation long enough to set a price. 97 wasn't released. 98 goes for about a hundred a bottle.

I don't age Zins thus my 95s are long gone. I have some stray 97s regular and magnum but mainly what I have are 98/99/00.

Ok. Still, if you want to zap me a price list on anything your willing to part with....I (and my significant other) are Turley fans.

short-the falesco pricing is high. believe it or not, i saw it for half that price in italy. i find acker merrals live auction and on line auctions the best place for picking wines of these type up at relatively decent prices.

I'd probably buy the Falesco. Depending on my mood, I might have sprung for the '96 Araujo, too.

mdriver -

I checked winebid and winecommune on the Araujo Syrahs. You can do better on auction then at Morrells.

I saw the '96 Syrah at roughly $110 per bottle.

At $110, that would be a strong buy for me. Not in copious quantities, but maybe a bottle or two.

That Screaming Eagle is absurd.

In my opinion, while I do want to have one before I die, ALL Screaming Eagle prices are absurd.
