Sorry TBird - I should have posted on this alot sooner. Anyway what a great fest - many fine ales in abundance (Belgian style & otherwise) - most from the states (all over) of course - but a number from Belgium (some I'd never heard of)...Stone was there with their Vertical Epic - (that just blew me away...I felt unworthy!) - Ithica had a very nice IPA - Chimay was nice of course - many others. Partied with the Dogfishead crew both Friday at the VIP brewmaster Party and the next night at their tent as well. They had taps of the (new) Peche(peach)  (I'm so so with it - good for summer I guess but very sour - Berliner wheat style so they said...) and a Blue and Black (fantastic) - not sure of the details (spiced somehow and seemed quite dark...then again it was....heh it was after a very long day...) - they also sent us home with glasses and various bottles - including a special brew for the 375th Aniversary of Lewes Delaware that will only be sold (for a limited time) in Deleware...and a number of bottle of their Raison d'extra (waaaaay strong - had to be at least 12 ABV if not more I would think). They were a really cool bunch. But I was crushed when Ommagang ran out of their cave aged 3 Philosphers (Triple) - for retail sale that is - (prior to us getting there on Friday!!) Damn.  Friday night it was mostly Ommegang brews (all of them - including 3 philosophers) as much as you could handle...and I certainly downed a few or several...of each that is...) - Saturday I'd say there were at least 40-50 breweries pouring from about 1pm till 6 or 7. After having really done a blow out Friday night I started slow on Saturday - first just Lambics (one brewery had a Kriek that was to die for - I drank it and the others (including an Apple that was quite good - closer to Calvados then cider certainly - but very juicy and refreshing) down as if they were juice for my breakfast!!!) - then I moved onto Witts and whites - through some lagers (didn't quite do it for me on this day..) and Pale ales - up to the real IPAs! (my fave - amd their were many great ones with the Ithica standing out...Victory wasn't pouring the Hop Devil - shame!) and then onto the doubles and Triples and various specialized (and heavier) concoctions...paced it well...and after going out for dinner we joined the Dogfishead crew at their tent and partied well into the wee hours then did a follow up at the house I was staying at (where I didn't last so long - but felt great - just tired...)...yum - can't wait for next year!

While buying wine at B-21, found some Westamalle, and it's been yummy.

Tbird - I quite enjoy the Stoudts double IPA - have it and some stouds darkies (both stout & orter I believe) in the fridge. And got turned on to the Ipswich IPA at the festival in Omegang...and I know its blasphemy to say at a Belgian beerfest - but it (along with some of the Stone offerings) were among my favorite quaffs at the festival. So 2 thumbs up for the Ipswich - had never had it before but I'll certainly be on the lookout...

Double IPA
Floral with hints of citrus. The intense bitterness is held in check with malt. A hop head's delight. Strong.

Hangover this AM.

I have been really digging the Stone brews. If you like the Arrogant Bastard Ale, try the Ruination IPA.

Corsendonk Christmas Ale is pretty nice too.
