Foret Belgian Saison Ale from Brasserie DuPont from .750 (7.5% alc) Clean and refreshing for a beer of this ABV. Very fine carbonation. Hint of clove. One of my favorite Saisons. From Beverages and More.

Hey Fred - Dogfish Head makes some cool beers. They have brewpubs in Rehoboth and Gaithersburg, which are both pretty cool places.

The shelter ale is excellent, and very approachable. The 60 minute IPA is, too (very approachable despite 6% abv!). The Chicory Stout is also good. I have found, though, a lot of variation in the 90 minute IPA. They are also making a 20% abv 120 minute IPA to be released in February

Re: Magic Hat #9. I have had this a lot out of bottle and have noticed a lot of variation in the different lots. Sometimes a nice brightness, sometimes rather disjointed. For a fruit flavored beer, I think it is very good, but there are occasions when it strikes me that "ale" and "apricot" don't belong together. Still, a solid performer that I will continue to buy.

Raybanz, there is a brewing around here that is well known for their fruit beers. Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur (just northwest of San Quinten Prison about a mile) has in the past made some really tasty fruit beers. However the variation can be quite large in the taste of the beer depending on where in the serving tank you got your been. With the first serving things seemed good and also at the end the fruit was vry pronouced. The middle of the serving tank seemed to provide the most variability. I think it all depended on how long the beer had been sitting in the tank.

In today's Wall Street Journal (Saturday 1/28/06) is a well illustrated article about reading the codes on cans and bottles of beer to determin when they were bottled. The idea being, of course, to be able to buy the freshest bottles available.

Drinking Drake's IPA tonight.

Every time I have this I wonder why I buy any other bottled IPA's. Beats favorites like Lagunitas, Marin Brewing Co. and Stone. The distibutor must be fastidious about rotating stock because I've never had one that wasn't a dead ringer for a fresh Brew Pub Product. Intensely hoppy, both fruity and bitter, but plenty of rich malt to balance things out. Very long, fresh, hoppy, citrus rind finish that ends up dry, asking you to take another sip. 7.0 alc

Strong Ale Month.

Every year, 21st Ammendment and Magnolia Brew Pubs offer 10 Strong Brews during February. Drink all ten during the month (therer's a punch card) and get a commemerative glass.

I had these five over two nights at 21st Ammendment. All were excellent.

Golden Doom Belgian Tripel 10.8% alc - 30 IBU (a good example of this style)
Double Trouble Imperial IPA 10.1% alc - 120 IBU!!! (worth a special trip)
Mac's Strong Scotch Ale 8.7% alc - 38 IBU (I thought this would be syrupy. It wasn't)
Hendrik's Imperial Espresso Stout 9.7% alc - 80 IBU (Hops overrule the espresso - nice)
Lower De Boom Barleywine 11.9% alc - 95 IBU (much more flavorful than previous austere versions)

That's good stuff. My local Costco carried it for a while, then stopped.
Pity. I've not seen it anywhere else except occasionally in BevMo.

Oh dear, I discovered that Whole Foods stocks JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale. I cleaned out the 1998, 1999, and 2000 vintages and made a serious dent in the 2002's. Also picked up some Fuller's 2004 Vintage Ale.

I was more excited about this than I was to find the 2003 Fonseca for $47 a bottle (of course, I cleaned that out too).

Not round here they don't.
Ah, John Willie Lees. Good North West beer, that. Do you ever see Moonraker out here?

Ok...I will admit that I've never been a beer drinker...I'll get a beer (Coors light) every now and then at a bar just because hard liquor will put me on the floor and I don't drink swill at bars/restaurants.

Recently, I have started getting beer with my meals. I had my first Tsing Tao two weeks ago with some Chinese food and I loved it. Yesterday, I had Dos Equis, which really didn't do it for me. I am really starting to enjoy beer with my meals over wine...yikes!

Beer has a natural affinity for food, and can match with many foods that wine struggles with.

Starting St Pat's early. Off to Paddy Mac's to get into training with Irish beers tonight.

Guiness does not count as that is a stout, and Bass is an Ale, So will be playing my "Harp" tonight

I really am starting to like Whole Foods. First trip, Rochefort Trappest Ale 8. Next trip, Rochefort Trappest Ale 6 & 8. Yesterday they had Rochefort Trappest Ale 6, 8 and 10! I bought some of each (especially the 10).

Not to mention Bass is English if I recall. I had some Scottish Kelp beer over the weekend...It was really good. Really strong but really good.
