Bought our neighbors who cat sit for us while on vacation some Thunder Hole Ale and Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale. No idea what they taste like but I hope he likes them.

Had a bottle of Shiner Bock with some Mexican food last weekend. Good combination. It was the first beer I have had in over a year.

Dark weissbier last night - heavier on the stomach. I am considering finding something different tonight but I only know how to order this stuff.

I brewed 10 gallons of an Amber Ale on Saturday. So far it appears to be progressing well...

Mrs. TJ found this interesting bit of info on the Brickskeller (local DC mega beer joint near Dupont Circle) that has 'beer cocktails'... Check out some of the concoctions. Any comments?

ALE PUNCH
Ale, brandy, sherry, cloves, cinnamon, sugar, lemon juice.

BLACK and TAN
Lager downstairs, Guinness upstairs.

BLACK BART
Dark beer and cola. Not necessarily served in a dirty glass.

BLACK VELVET
Smooth as it’s name, Half Lager, Half Champagne.

BLOW MY SKULL OFF
An 1850’s Austrailian miners drink made with stout, rum, cayenne pepper, lime juice and opium. Forget the opium.

EYE'LL B PUKE-N'
From our buddies at Mendocino Brewing, one of their favorite concoctions. Half Eye of the Hawk and Half North Coast Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.

RED EYE
Beer and tomato juice. Hemmingway’s hangover cure concoction?

RUDDY MARY
You got it, Beer instead of vodka!

SHANDY GAFF
Half beer, half ginger beer. Also made with ginger ale, apple liquer, raspberry or lime juice. From Merry Olde England.

SKIP AND GO NAKED
Beer, gin, grenadine and lemon juice. An old favorite. Please remain clothed.

SMACK and TAN
(Concocted in Dave's very own secret laboratory)
The Black and Tan kicked upstairs with Ale and Barleywine! Half Anchor Steam Beer and Half Old Foghorn - OR - Half Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale and Half Bigfoot!!! Seeing as how this is America and despite what very sneaky bad people say it is actually impossible to be either politically or zymurglogically incorrect, you are free to substitue the brewery of your choice!

SMOOTHIE
“The Poor Mans Black Velvet” - Half Guinness and Half Cider

SNAKEBITE
A favourite from England - Half Lager and Half Cider

TEACHER CREATURE
Scotch, Drambuie and beer. Scottish beer, of course. Who but the frugal Scots could come up with a drink featuring all their own products? Kilt and pipes not furnished.

WHISTLE BELLY VENGENCE
Half beer or ale with rum and molasses. An American Colonial drink circa 1600.

TJ-
Thunder Hole is quite good I think they will like it. Good blueberry essence.

Crazy night at A Cote in Oakland last night. They have possibly the most eclectic beer list I've ever seen. Westvletren, Westmalle, Trappiste Rochefort 10...they even have Delerium Tremens on tap!

Since many of these retail for around $10, they were priced at around $20 on the list. As a first, I actually consumed $101 worth of beer!

I was done drinking beer and had ordered a glass of 2002 Jouget Chinon to go with the Aged Pecorino and Brebis on the cheese course. The wine was fine with the cheese, but the accompanying toasted nut bread, Italian almonds, slightly sweet roasted walnuts, green apple and marinated dark fig slices cried for a porter or stout.

I had the most amazing Stout I have ever had: (Image) A. le Coq Imperial Stout (AKA Harvey Imperial Extra Double Stout)

2001 Bottling. 9% alc. Extremely dark. Pours absolutely opaque. Almost no head and very little carbonation. Aromas and flavors of chocolate, fennel, fig, soy, dark fruits, tobacco and much more.

Fantastic match for the food.

Looks like I'll need to make another trip to A Cote. Perhaps in a couple of weeks. You up for a return visit Bob?

You bet. It's on my way home from work if a weekday is good for you. They have expanded the patio area and now have a spot where an offline of 16 would be able to dine semi-privately. $800 includes the food. Corkage is negotialble.

Black Velvet should be Guinness and Champagne. Mixes vary but half and half is very nice. Some people consider this to be a waste of Guinness but it really is good. You can do anything up to 4 parts Guinness to one Champers and nobody will complain of you use a cheap Champagne substitute rather than your Vintage Krug.

Hell, better move my post count on incase somebody complains I'm being insensitive.

Errmmm... oh yes. Just been hiding in The Lakes for a week and came across Hawshead beer, Red and Gold. The Red won hands down being fruity and stronger. I also managed to have some damson beer which turned out to have something of a kick at 7%.

I actually noticed that boo-boo myself, but I wondered if anyone else would notice so I left it alone. Congrats to you, KillerB, for exposing it!

Just to be annoying - Black and Tan should be Bitter and Guinness or even Mild and Guinness

I'm getting to really like The Fisher Amber. Also had some Saporo at a family reunion this weekend.

KillerB here in the States a Black and Tan is made with Lager. Most establishments don't have bitter and you never see mild except at the more eclectic pubs (and folks at those won't be mixing beers in one glass).
