| I was surprised to find that there's not a bourbon thread here, so I figured I'd start one.
The Rocket Scientist got on the sweet Kentucky juice after her brother-in-law mixed her up something. Experimenter that she is, she started tasting. Nearly 2 years later, we drink Wild Turkey 101 for mixing (a splash of ginger ale, and a lime), and Blanton's for straight. She'll also use Knob Creek or Maker's Mark for mixing, but I'm still strong on the Turkey.

| The best Bourbon distillery is Buffalo Trace (it used to be called Weller). The list of whiskies distilled there include:
George T. Stagg
William Larue Weller
Buffalo Trace
Eagle Rare
Old Rip Van Winkle
All of these are worth seeking out and trying, but be aware that these are the Screaming Eagles of Bourbon - they're highly allocated and can be hard to find.
One other Bourbon of note is Hirsch. It was made at the original Michter's Distillery in Pennsylvania (!) which, sad to say, has been torn down.

| Old Rip comes in 10, 12, 15, 20 and 23 year old versions. (There's also a 13 year old Rye.) If money is (almost) no object and you can find them, the 20 and the 23 are where you want to be.

| Woodford Reserve is my usual bourbon and I rotate in either Knob Creek or Pogue's as a second choice. Recently tried some Bulleit Frontier which I liked. Looking forward to trying some Van Winkle, I've heard good things about the 15 and 20 year old. | | | |

| Another vote for the Knob. On a semi-related note I was shocked to see what some Jack Daniels commemorative bottles were going for on ebay. Suffice it to say I cleand out the liquor cabinet during our recent ice storm and turned collectibles into drinkables.  | | | |

| Russell's Reserve from Wild Turkey is a bargain for a good 10 year old. Master Distilller Jimmy Russell was at a blind tasting that I attended and he is quite a down home character. I also got to meeet the owner of Marker's Mark and he is more of a Master Marketer.
Old Pappy's and Hirsch are quite a treat, fully deserving shelf space with the best brown spirits. I am curious to try some good rye. I remember that my grandfather enjoyed a nightcap of rye every now and then. | | | |

A great Bourbon and one of my regulars. A friend in Kentucky sent me a bottle of the 15 year old for Christmas that was signed by the Mr. Van Winkle himself. I also picked up a couple bottles of Four Roses, the Small Batch which is supposedly only available in Kentucky and possibly Japan, and the Single Barrel which also supposedly only available in Kentucky.

No joke. I've been finishing off the last bit of a 1915 gold medal bottle and just saw that it's selling at eBay for $61, with one "Buy Now" at $150. Geez, I might just trek to Lynchburg to pack up a bunch and resell. I usually drink Woodford, but make exceptions if I see something exciting at the local ABC. | | | |
