| Delicious nose of white tree fruit. This was a citrus filled, bright, fruity wine that displayed a chalky earth essence. There is a touch of sweetness and the balance is amazing. The wine finished with a certain purity and a hint of grapefruit peal zest in the back of the mouth.
The wine had an awesome aroma that reminded me of the scents smelled while standing around a running stream.
90pts
The Nahe wines are a bit heavier and more rich then the Mosels that I usually prefer - but for that reason they canstand up to some heavier weighted food. For the record - I believe that Riesling, due to it's endless styles and purity, is the worlds finest food wine.
The problem with the Donhof is that @ $25 this kabinet is pricey compared to some finer examples from the Mosel. I wonder if that has to do with the Dominance this winery has inside of it's specific region? Want a great Nahe? you buy a Donhof. Want a great Mosel and there aremore options.

| Glad you enjoyed it, TCK. I thought it was excellent and rated it 90 pts as well. I think the only thing about the Donnhoff's is that their Kabinetts drink more like Spatlese and the Spatlese more like Auslese. I have never had one of their Auslese, but Chris told me that he had one on Thanksgiving and he swore he was drinking a TBA. They are pricey, but worth it, IMO.

| | That is an intersting point JB, this was for sure a very "heavy" kabinet. I agree that it had the weight of a Mosel Spatlese I will have to do some experimentation to decide if I find the same complexity. That being said, Chris is the man and I would take anything he says as law. | | | |

| I just love to see people complaining about Donnhoff prices on wine boards. We (as a collective group) likely spend more on wine than most countries, but $25 is too much for kabinett. Bought any White Burgundy lately? How about top quality White Bordeaux?
As for the complexity, it's there, but this wine needs time and lots of it.

| RF, speaking in relative terms here, wrt price. Most other Kabinetts in our store are under or at $20. This one is a good $5 more. Well worth it, IMO.
And, yes, I buy a lot of white burg!

Certainly everything is relative. I would never deny that. But even the Mosels are going up. Christoffel used to be $12, not it's $20. Muller-Catoir has always been north of $20. Robert Weil makes Donnhoff look cheap.
I just find it funny that we even discuss price for the finest Rieslings. Other than Clos St. Hune, ZH Brand/Rangen and some of the upper end Wachau Rieslings (Knoll, Hirtzberger) they are seriously undervalued. Sure Donnhoff Hermannshohle Spatlese (and Auslese) are getting a little pricey, but we're talking wines in the top 10 in their class (and by class I mean white wine, not just Riesling).
Imagine how happy we would be if we could buy top-tier Cabernet at $25-50/bottle.
Sorry to rant, but this is a consistent bug for me.

| No need.
Relatively speaking I would pay $25 for a kabinet if they were all priced there. The fact that I can get wines of equal quality for less money means I'd pick them. In general I think German Rieslings are under priced as a whole. A smart shopper will always buy the best value inside of it's group of equals.
If it makes you feel better I don't buy very much white burgundy at all because in general I don't think their quality justifies their price. Riesling as a whole could go up 30% and still be a better buy as a group.
