Probably not the most objective tasting note in the world, but here goes...

Very light straw color. Initially very tight, showing not much more than some lime zest and intense minerals/rocks. Time in the glass opened it up, and revealed ripe, fresh peach aromatics touched with red spice elements. Fresh, rich, powerful (more powerful than any other 2002 Donnhoff spatlese...I've now tried five of the six) but retains the elegance and transparency that is the hallmark of a Donnhoff wine. I'm not familiar with the Felsenberg, so I can't say how reflective this wine is of its place, but it is certainly a Donnhoff wine. There's no escaping the ripe fruit, depth of minerals and elegant, enveloping finish. Perfectly clean, pure and balanced, as the acidity just folds into the fruit. Lively and pretty while being more powerful than either of those words implies.

This is truly delicious Riesling. I don't know how I'm going to age it. I could drink all of our bottles right now.

I like this even more than the '02 Hermannshohle, and that's about as high praise as I can give.

Great note, RF. I just brought home a bottle of this last night. I'll probably open it later this week. I have another bottle on hold in the back of the store. Sounds like I should give that lonely bottle some more company.

Best guess on drink window?

I would definitely drink at least one or two bottles of this in the next six months. It's so delicious now. I think you're safe drinking it any time over the next 15 years. With the concentration and structure, it has plenty of stuffing to age for the long haul.

I couldn't resist opening this as I have another bottle on hold and there is about 8 bottles left at the store.

Wine is a moderate straw core with a little water at the rim. Aromatically reserved at first, but after 30 mins revealing lots of tangerine, strawberry and cotton candy notes. Medium to full bodied in the mouth with impeccible balance. The wine just sings with bold pink lady apple, more tangerine, lime and a little minerality in the very long finish. This is what great Riesling is all about. jb Rating 93.

Drink 2004-2010 to catch this great fruit. QPR B+ $38.

Why must you tempt me like this JB - "93 pts, we have 8 left" Man you make it tough. Looks like the wife's getting 1 less X-mas gift.
