$80 ; 90 WA; Winetex no rating

This is the wine I asked about in a previous threadOff wine that was scarily off.

I normally wouldn't mention a wine that is off in a TN but this one was so gross it takes the prize. It smelled slightly metallic when I opened it. There was no "corked" wet cardboard smell. Then I poured the wine into a decanter. My husband was watching and we both noticed a shape in the decanter which proved to be a whole grape (!). I've never seen that before.

The wine tasted yeasty and was returned to my retailer. I certainly did not expect this from an $80 wine. We are going to open the other bottle soon in case it has the same problem.

Hmmm, a contender for Hall Of Shame, me thinks... Let us know about that 2nd bottle...

I had one and it hit a 92+ in the Gastrometer.
BTW I also had two bottles of the Contador (WA98) in the course of the most fantastic lunch imaginable, and it reached a whopping 94-96. Sad to say the latter fetches 190 euros per...

Gastronauta - thank you for the note! I'm hopeful.

The Contador was a whopping $260 USD. I passed...Sounds like a great lunch.

This is now in the Hall of Shame X two bottles. The second bottle was equally as bad as the first maybe minus a whole grape. It was murky, metallic and sour. These were sequential bottles so I can only imagine how many were bad in this lot.

Damit, at $80 per this is a serious contender! I know the wine to be better than that, so perhaps something should be done (say, lot # reported to importer or something...?)

I'm making sure that the distributor follows up with the importer on this. At least as much as I can. They were so happy to obtain these for me as I really wanted to try this wine.

Perhaps they could fidelize you forever with a free bottle of Contador...
