2001 Reuscher-Haart Piesporter Goldtropfchen spatlese, $18.80 8.5% alcohol

Light golden color - more like light brass. Multiple thin legs

Nose was a little closed, but had nice peachy fruit undertones. It was tart with fierce acidity, but you can tell the sweetness was there somewhere. Intense minerality that kept going back and forth from slate to chalk and back again. The wine is definitely disjointed and I can see why they say this wine needs time.

The wine opened up only a little the 2nd and 3rd day. Still a tart lemony impression, but it was a mouthful with good concentration. This wine is enjoyable enough now, but it should be much more in the future. This is definitely the most closed of the 2001 rieslings that I tried.

I ordered this wine mistaking it for the 2001 Rheinhold-Haart Piesporter Goldtropfchen spatlese, which is showing extremely well now and costs 50% more. Fortunately, this was not a bad mistake. It will be interesting to see how this wine evolves.
