This was a one-off bottle. I bought hte only one I saw & I have never seen any others. Last night seemed as good a time as any to open it.

Pale yellow with a touch of green. The nose is very pretty, with lots of minerals, lemons and a touch of tropical fruit. In the mouth it's a whole different wine. First of all it's bone dry. Secondly it's all about minerals. Some air time brings out a little more depth & some lemon flavors, but in the end this is a mineral lovers dream.

I have experienced this phenomenon with older Donnhoff wines (especially kabinett) a few times. THe wine is not old/OTH, but it has nothing left but its skeleton. I'm betting that this was a halbtrocken at birth & not labelled as such. If that's true then what little sugar it had disappeared in about 1999. What's left has more in common with Trimbach than any German wine I know. This needed food badly, but was opened as an aperitif.

I am convinced that this wine was not damaged in any way, but has just dried out.
