Clear, golden brown color

Wonderful aroma of spices, cinnamon, and apples.

Downhill from the nose. Rich and sweet with no balance left at all, and a relatively short finish.

This wine brings back lots of memories, and was fun to try again for that alone, but its well past its prime. 80-82 points. Drink now, but hopefully this was the last bottle left on the planet.

Duke, I had more German wines from 1976 than any other vintage. The best BA's and TBA's didn't improve much after 4 years. The eisweins were outstanding but short-lived and the Ausleses were mostly headed south by 1981. It was a great vintage in its youth, but didn't quite have the staying power of the 1983's.

Either I like my Rieslings with a little more age than you (probable) or I had better luck with some of mine (unlikely). I had a number of great 76's into the early 90's. Most of the ones that seemed to have more staying power were from the Mosel.

I have one bottle left from the 1976 vintage, a Kaseler Nies'chen Auslese Gold Cap from the Bischofliches Priesterseminar that was recently given to me by a friend. I had a bottle of this about ten years ago and it was fabulous. I have no idea how it will be now. We plan on drinking it in the next month or so.
