2004 Selbach-Oster Aeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett...this was a recommendation made by my wine guy who has not disappointed me. I drank this over several days. Faint hue of yellow-green in the glass. Nose of pineapple, papaya, chalk. It needed a tad bit more acidity. The oily texture I got on the palate reminded me of a Pinot Grigio and I didn't like that. Overall, a nice summer quaffer and recommended for $18. I think the 03 Rieslings are better than the 04s. BD87

Wow, I find it hard to believe that any '04 needed more acidity. The '04s have lower sugar and higher acidity than almost every comparable '03. Surprising.

Disclaimer: I am a fan of '04 and dislike '03 as a vintage due to its being overfat and flabby.

I feel the opposite: I think the 03s are great and the 04s are flabby. But then again, I'm not a Riesling expert by any means.

Well I don't get it but...

Virtually every '04 has both analytically and anecdotally higher acid than its '03 counterpart. The sugars are lower as well, thus normally increasing the perception of acid.

I'm really very curious, is it the bigger style of the '03s that you like? That would make sense to me, but '04 as flabby is something I have never heard from anywhere.

I am only comparing the Selbach-Oster to Christoffels I've had. Like I said, I don't think I've had enough of either vintage to make an accurate judgement.
