| | There was not all that much to mix together. There was one fuder (a very large, old barrel) which is equivalent to about 110 cases. It all gets bottled at once. | | | |

| I was digging through my collection when I found a bottle of this which appeared to be oozing just a bit. There was a small drop of concentrated stickiness on the capsule. So I pulled it out and opened it. The top of the cork was likewise wet and sticky, and the cork itself showed considerable dampness.
The wine itself was not spoiled. However, it did seem slightly faded; no sharp acidity. No petrol either. Instead, a light, sweet flavor exhibiting apples and citrus.
I am hopeful that this was the only leaky bottle (the other bottles appeared fine); but I am just a little concerned. | | | |

| | Anyone looking for sharp acidity in a 2003 Auslese is looking in the wrong place. The *** has only about 6 g/l of acidity. Unless you've been drinking Cal Cab all night there's no way it should ever taste acidic. | | | |

The interesting thing is that I am trying more of the 2001's (which still may not be ready), but I have to say that the concentration and richness of the 2003's are hard to beat, even though they may not have the classic balance. This and the ET** and spatlese are still the buy of the century for me. Even though I bought more than 30 cases of the 3, I am kicking myself for not buying more. | | | |

I agree with you on this one - it has become our favorite Reisling of late...and while I only purchased about 3 cases (30 cases!!!!) I'm finding myself running a bit low and will be sad to see this gone. Its just drinking so great right now its hard to resist (and lacking acidity I don't think it will be served by any extended aging)...yeah I certainly wish I had bought more of this - for the price its about impossible to touch.Were enjoing the ET** and Spatlese as well (and are running our of all the above...likley will not last the smmer...) - but clearly the *** is the sh*t.

| I finally opened up a bottle, not because I wanted to but because I had to. When I was moving around my six bottles, I noticed that two of them were leaking real bad. I pulled the cork on the worst bottle, and recorked the other bottle after giving it a blast of nitrogen.
The wine was good but not spectacular. I prefer a bit more acidity in my whites. I do not think the juice was badly damaged at this point and perhaps a few more years will be kind to the wine. | | | |

| | Just opened one of my last of these tonight (perhaps have 4-5 more...) and noticed lots of syrupy oozing out the cork (not the first time I've had this issue with Christofel wines). The wine still drank well - but with noticibly less effervesence (& brightness) then usual. We drank it quite chilled and I suspect it would not have compared as favorably to others we've had at room temp. Still went very well with the Thai food and my wife and I had no problems slurping it all down and wishing for more... | | | |
