I have been very impressed with most 2004 Rieslings that I have tasted. This offering from Christoffel is delicious, but seems more like Spatlesen that Kabinett. It wields a fair amount of sweetness for a Kabinett, but that is balanced by excellent acidity and minerality. Classic slate, crisp apples, subtle cherry tones. Plush and transparent at the same time. Very well done. jb

Despite what many have heard, 2004 is a very ripe vintage. Acidity was retained (unlike 2003), but still most kabinetts could qualify for spatlese. I bought a lot of kabinett from 2004, and some even taste like kabinett (Schmitt Wagner, Loewen, Schafer-Frolich, Kesselstatt...).

Gunderloch's 2004 Auslese and TBA are amazing!

Another good year - just what I needed. 60+ cases of 2001, 30+ cases of 2002, 30+ cases of 2003. I need a string of bad years to get back into balance. I only ordered 6 cases of 2004 so far.
