| Had this last evening with my wife at the local German restaurant. One of the last wines I will have tasted before shipping off to Central Asia. Drank with a weisswurst platter with German potato salad and red cabbage sauerkraut.
Very, very tight wine. Not only sleeping, but perhaps in the first stages of hibernation. Massive spritz in the wine, very typical of the JJ PRum's I've tasted. So massive that it did not blow off despite taking over 60 minutes to finish the one bottle. What little I could gather from this wine was that there was some nice slate on the finish and minimal fruitiness. Did not compare with the 03's in terms of smell - it literally was non-existent. If you have any of these, keep them asleep for many years in my opinion.
The waiter brought out the wrong bottle initially - a bottle of 2002 JJ Prum Weheler Sonnenheur Kabinett...I thought that might be an omen of things to come.
All in all, I took a chance with a young Prum and paid the price for it - simply sleeping and not worth scoring. I know that it'll be much better in 3-5 years. | | | |
