| Gold colored with nose of petrol, spice, minerals, wet stone, smoke and forest floor. Medium bodied with petrol, smoke, honey, forest floor and vanilla cookie. Very nice. | | |

| Jason,
Nice notes on this and the rest of the wines that you've been tasting in your new job. Thank you!
This sounds like a 30-year Spatlese that is aging well. Do you have access to these? If so, how many and in what price neighborhood? | | | Cheers, y'all

| Unfortunately no I do not have access to any of the older wines. Johannes said that he only has 10 cases left at the winery after bringing 6 bottles for us. It was a pleasure to drink, and even after 24 hours in the refrigerator the wine was still good. | | | |

| Thanks for posting these. That area (middle Mosel) is my favorite area and Selbach-Oster is probably my third favorite producer. It is interesting to see how the different vintages are aging. | | | |

| Hmmm...let me guess...GATC's number one producer would be Christoffel? Seems likely based on purchase quantities.
On a personal note, I really like the wines of Selbach-Oster, but almost never fall deeply in love with any of them. They are too techinically correct at times for me. While I applaud (loudly) the trend for cleaner winemaking throughout the globe, sometimes it goes so far in the squeaky clean wine style that something is lost. There's something about the leesier style of a J. J. Prum, or the woodsier style of a Grunhaus that just takes me to another level. For me the high points in the Selbach catalog come from the Auslese and Eiswein. At the "normal" pradikat levels (kabinett, spatlese) I find them to be incredibly reliable, typical, safe, high quality choices that rarely WOW me.
