| A rep just dropped off some tasting stock for me and I saw this little gem amongst the case.
The vineyard isn't shown so I presume this is actually off a number of vineyards.
The wine is an MSR (Mosel-Saar Ruwer)100% riesling and Dr Loosen is rated amongst the MSR's top producers. This win cost about 23$ NZD
Colour: light clear straw-almost watery Nose: subtle lime and flint with hints of butter scotchy confectionary (very mild), some sweet rock candy characters (?), and some melon and melba notes also. A very compelx nose. Palate: Great acids, carry the fruit very well with strong length. The acids play across the palate stimulating the taste buds very well. Almost dry finish. Overall: An excellent wine for the dollars (about $12 USD) I give this a A- on the QPR scale and a 89 on the Jeremy Scale

| Jeremy,
Thank you. If the Qualitatswein is that good (yet is among the lowest quality marketable German wine), then the Kabinett, Spatlese, etc. must be very good on a relative scale.
Much appreciated! I intend to act on this info ASAP, before others wise up to the values available to them.

| Yeah it was good.I was surprised actually I expected a 85 point wine but it wasn't. The complex nose , the finish and palate feel were very good, it was real surprise | | | |

| Jeremy, good to hear. I hear that QBA's and Kabinett's will be really good since a lot of wines have been declassified (i.e many Kabinett's qualified to be labelled as Spatlese, and so on). The prices are still pretty good because German rieslings are IMHO the most underrated wines in the world.
My 2001 futures are just starting to arrive. Picked up 2 cases yesterday and no less than 8 cases arrived at my home yesterday. I will start tasting them today and hope to get the TN's posted soon.

| GATC, I completely second that comment about German Riesling being amongst the most under-rated wines in the world.
I'm always surprised by peoples inability to understand or appreciate German wine, particularly quality regions like MSR. I can understand the continued disappointment with regions like Pflaz where the quality is pathetic but the quanitity is huge, but people regularly lump all German wine in that bracket.

| I agree with you both. My problem is finding enough quality examples in the stores. They just don't get the shelf space around here. | | | |

| I must admit even in a shop like my mine where my personal taste (which is fairly broad ) decides what lie's within the recess's of my shelves the German section consists of about 15 differant wines. A mixture of good vintage Spatlese, Kabinets, one Trockenbeerenauslese , a couple of Eisweins and two Auslese's, three Qualitatsweins. They're all MSR.
People just don't buy them, which I guess has a positive side- the price remains fairly reasonable with the exception fo one or two.

| Had this wine with dinner tonight since we are talking about it.
Fantastic deal. I had company so I couldn't take good notes. What I did get was a solid nose and good balance between the sugar and acidity.
