Laura grabbed this from the cellar as a blind tasting experiment for me. I managed to nail it down to 1998 Kabinett, but could not identify the producer or site. Phooey.

Pale yellow color. Immediately recognizable as German Riesling with a bit of age by the developing smoke and diesel aromas. Underneath that was a hint of tangerine, apple and sweet herbs. An initial fruity sweetness on the attack gave way to a great big watery hole in the mid-palate. The finish had plenty of minerals and the acidity was well integrated, but the hole in the center was a problem. About an hour later the hole had filled in somewhat, with a subtle creaminess and further mineral and herb flavors. This is likely still a bit shut down, accounting for the amount of time it took to flesh out. I would wait 1-2 more years for any other bottles, but this was a cellar orphan. We'll see how the other half of the bottle is tonight.

Indeed, it was especially disappointing since the Treppchen is my favorite Mosel site.
