| Whoa. This is...whoa...apple, pear peach, nectarine, plumb, and oh that slate. What amazingly high levels of acidity but yet, somehow, they don't cause alarm -- they just make me think this is a 30-40 year wine. Whoa. The best auslese I've ever had? Probably not. On the very short list? Absolutely. This is a truly special wine. If you can find it under $55 and you like Mosels, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. 92.5-93 right now. 94+ in the making

| Thanks for the note. I have not yet opened any of mine.
What I have had is the Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese****, and that's a wine that will kick your butt from here to Urzig and back again. Not a 30-40 year wine, it may be immortal.

| | Have not had this or the ****, but definitely had a lot of the *. I did order a case of the 2003 *** for a pretty decent pre-arrival price from Premier Cru (under $50, maybe under $40?)). I started to catalog my wines (since I took around 900 bottles to a new offsite walk-in storage) and realize that about 1/2 of my 2001,2002, 2003 German rieslings are Christoffel. Of course I do have a fair amount of Donnhoffs just in case I finally figure out why Rieslingfan and others rave about it. | | | |

| | I think this is the same wine. The only difference is Urziger versus Urtzegur. I think it's Urziger. Time for Jason to jump in here and clarify.
Probably the most impressive thing about this note is I found the old one using search. 2002 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese *** - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (3/1/2008) WIML93,PURPLE92. Tasted March 1, 2008. Opened and served immediately. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of pool water, wet stones, quince and oranges. Flavors of peaches, oranges, sweet cherries. Palate cleansing acidity, good body and well balance. Drinks lovely early but can be held for quite some time to come. | | With always more than you actually care to know: Yes it is Urziger Wurzgarten, or the spice of Urzig (Urzig being the village and Wurzgarten being the vineyard). Christoffel and Dr. Loosen probably make the best expression, though stylistically different of this vineyard. It is composed, uniquely for its location of red volcanic soil and slate which can lend itself to more tropical expressions of fruit and a lot of spice as the vineyard name states.

| | Thanks for the notes. It looks like I have a bottle of this (would have been a random purchase...). | | | |

See, I knew I was right. Winetex, no rush. I'll be opening my next bottle probably in 5 years but even that is not a rush in my humble opinion.
