| citrus on the nose, grapefruit. Pale yellow color. Grapruit on the palate with some petrol on the medium length finish. MLV got hints of vanilla which I did not. Somewhat less sweet than the 2001 Spatleses we have been tasting. Very tasty and an excellent food wine. Went very well with our mahi-mahi baked with garlic, scallions, shallots, star fruit and white wine. At $12.99 an excellent deal and we will be buying more. Thanks to Emilio for bringing the 2001 Auslese to a dinner earlier this year. | | |

| Notes consistent with prior tasting. The petrol on the finish was no longer evident but a viscous texture was present. There was significant seepage and the top of the cork was wet. The bottle did not seem to be significantly damaged although showed slightly less well than I recall our previous bottle.

Ah the joys of corks combined with German bottling practices. Seepage is a way of life with these wines, but there almost never seems to be any real detriment. I had a bottle of 1999 Donnhoff spatlese that was quite sticky and gooey a few weeks ago, and the wine was still in suspended animation. There was no secondary development (this was a 1999), or even any real differece from a pristine bottle opened a few weeks earlier. And this was old seepage (it had solidified in some spots), so there was plenty of time for bad things to happen. I have just learned ot have a damp paper towel handy whenever I open a German wine. That way I can clean up the bottle.
As for Meulenhof - great value producer. They made some lovely 2004s. I was not a big fan of the 2003s from this estate. | | | |

| | Yes, we have encountered numerous issues with corks from rieslings and are always ready to wipe them off. 2001s were great from this producer. The 2003s we have had so far have been less impressive, but still enjoyable. I agree that this is a real value producer. | | | |

| | They are a value producer, but with good prices all around again, I tend to stay with my favorites. I did enjoy the 2001's that I bought from them. | | | |
