| In recent years I have used this wine as a sort of barometer for the upcoming vintage. This is my first experience with the '03 Germans. I am aware of claims that it may be a legendary vintage. The nose has a mild sulfer smell but dominated by citrus (grapefruit), apple, pear with hints of flowers and wet stones. Off-dry in the mouth the wine is initially structured and concentrated but seems lacking in zip (acidity). Still, quite enjoyable and balanced. Day 2 the wine seems better in terms of fruit/acidity balance but still not on par with the '01 version, for example. Is this a bad thing? It was tasty. | | |

| Roberto,
Thanks for the notes. However, did you mean TBA (trockenbeerenauslese) or Qba?

| Can't be TBA. It has not been released & there was no '01 TBA.
The '03 QbA is much bigger (and less tructured) than in prior years. It reflects the vintage. | | | |

| I sold Roberto this bottle so I know it is the QbA. I think that his note is what you will be saying about a lot of the wines from '03. Certainly delish, but lacking in acidity. Most likely a "drink sooner" kind of vintage. But I've only tasted maybe 6 wines from the vintage so far.
BTW, Rf, I tried the '03 Theo Minges Gleisweiler Holle Schuerebe Spatlese yesterday. Very tasty, yet also lacking a bit of acidity.

| | My bad guys! I ammended the original post. I can tell for sure that people read the TN's! Luckily JB could act as my guardian angel here. I agree that the style of the '03 QbA is bigger than the previous 3 vintages that I can compare it to. I'm going to proceed cautiously with this vintage (as opposed to '01 where it seemed like nearly every wine was a winner) as I prefer some acid and zip in my rieslings. | | | |
