| 2001 Josef Leitz Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spatlese, Rheingau, 9% alcohol, $24.95 from Hi Times
Light straw color, many thin legs that formed slowly. Musty nose that is still pretty closed even the 2nd day. The nose the first day was very clumsy and more minerally than fruit.
Tart apple flavors seem thin and the is a lot of heat, which is highly uncharacteristic for a riesling. The biting acidity is behaving more liike tannin and is grainy. WA gave this a 92, but I like the Leitz Rudesheimer Magdelenenkreuz kabinett better and it is half the price. It is possible that this wine is off or shutting down. Even if it is, there are a lot of better wines at this price point or less. | | | |
