I saw a gas station in my neighborhood change prices twice yesterday.

Ok, I gotta get this off my chest. In 2000, right before election, Al Gore had the strategic reserve tapped to control a short term price spike. I b**ched about it at the time, as the strategic reserve is not intended to control prices.

What do I hear today. Bush administration releases oil from the strategic reserve. And yes, I am still angry about it.

Doesn't look like the price of oil will be heading down soon, or at least that's what the big $$ is guessing.

My wife called me to tell me she paid $2.45 for regular in Walnut Creek (CA). I asked her what premium was and she said $2.65.

1.95 Premium; 1.75 regular

The terror premium on oil is only part of the problem.

Venezuela w Chavez and big union anti-oil proponents and policies are affecting business.
Nigeria-government that is facing scrutiny and civic uproar; Russia- legal woes of Yukos and others.
Increasing demand by the Far East esp. China/India
Local Gulf pumping effects of 4 Hurricanes this summer
SUV, wagon, and family sedans are the cars pumped out in Detroit ;they require more pumping in to go

But the one thing not discussed
...no one has built a refinery in the US in 20 years. Even if supply were to increase, and that increase could make it into the US, the rate limiting step still remains outdated facilities facing ever stricter regulations. And what about MTBE??

Oil ain't going down to $40 any time soon. Even if it did, that's 2x 2002 price.
And what about it's cousin natural gas? [No, not human methane]. No better pricing there.

BTW, finally bought TRP and added to my position in KMP.

That is a very real problem, Dr. T. It's something that should be addressed immediately and an action plan implemented to increase this capacity and/or reduce the need for expanding capacity (ie other energy alternatives).

I just wish they made a VW that had Prius-like functionality. Probably'll never happen, eh?

Gas prices in Toronto are 82.5 cents per liter. That works out to about $2.51USD/gal.

That's for regular. And people wonder why I don't own a car ...
