| So, I thought I'd watch a kid's fantasy film on a late Sat afternoon and maybe take nap. So I switch on Bridge to Terabithia.
Could anyone make a more depressing film? Two kids who are socially maladjusted find each other and create a fantasy world. One dies. The other creates a bridge so his sister won't get hurt. The moral of the story: life is tough, use your creative imagination to escape it.
This was almost as entertaining as "Radio Flyer" which was also billed as a kid's film, and was about physical abuse and the death of a child. | |

| Watched "No Country for Old Men." I love the Coen Bros., I love Tommy Lee Jones, and the lead guy was very good--but the film just left me wondering what the point was other than "everyone outgrows their usefulness." My enjoyment of the film may have been impacted by the fact that I started and stopped it several times and finished watching it the 2nd day. Might be worth a revisit.
Next up: "Atonement" and "Charlie Wilson's War." | |

| I don't remember the Cyclops character but as a Prince he was very funny.
As an aside, I saw a clip from Xmen 2 recently and completely forgot that Ellen Page was in it. She's a great (scary how great) actress. | |

Agreed on her talent...
Not to get quasi-political, but... It will be interesting to watch her career develop. Fascinating, really. While I've never read or seen her actually talk about it in interviews (though there was an allusion to it when she hosted SNL) she is pretty much openly a lesbian and it doesn't seem to be negatively impacting the movie roles that she is being offered. I hope that trend continues because she is bucking conventional wisdom about young stars and hiding their sexual orientations if they are gay and so far it seems she is proving that young stars DON'T have to hide their sexual orientations anymore, which I think is a major step forward for the movie industry, and the country, quite honestly.. | |
I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland.

That is the *rumor* that "everyone" has heard, and rather than deny it (which she has never done) she did a skit about it on SNL when she hosted -- her character in the skit realizes she is a lesbian and tells her "boyfriend" who then decides it doesn't matter and he'll love her regardless.

Is this appropriate for children under 10? My son is 8 and asking to see it since I made the mistake of showing him the trailers (Marvel geek that I am). | | | |

| Saw Ironman yesterday and really enjoyed it. Lots of adrenalin and Downey is good in the role.
As for an 8 year old...not sure. Maybe you should see it first and decide before taking him.
There is gory violence, some nasty torture and graphic medical procedures. Some romping in the sack (but no parts shown - no worse than TV) and sexual innuendo. Don't recall any profanity.

| Saw a couple of airplane movies.
I Could Never Be Your Woman - perhaps the lamest title to a movie I've heard in a long time. With Michele Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd. A chick flick about an older woman and younger man set backstage on a Hollywood Disney teen type series. A good cast except for the role filled by the incredibly miscast and not funny Jon Lovitz. Whos is going to believe that he could have been Michele Pfeiffer's first husband? See it only if you stumble across it flipping channels and you've see everything else that's on.
FYI, also co-stars the age defying Stacey Dash who is now 42. Hard to believe she was 29 when I first saw her in Clueless. She plays the "teen" on the TV series.

Thanks kpak. We usually preview movies if there is any doubt. There are some things I just don't want to explain to an 8 year-old. I think most of it is moderate and the intense parts move quickly. The most detailed, involved part of the film is the engineering/design/building of the suit. Which you will no doubt love  . | |

What Happens in Vegas
Not bad, IF you suddenly find yourself at 7:10 in an area with two movie complexes with nothing good showing and this somehow seems to be the best option and you absolutely, positively have to force your husband to go see a movie and can get away with it since it is Mother's Day weekend and even though you have several DVD's at home that are much higher quality movies.
