It wasn't the price of gas that changed our travel plans this year - it was the Euro vs. US Dollar. I really, really wanted to go to Champagne but the prices were just out there. But like Chilly I have started to notice the $$ when filling the tank We'll probably do alot of our normal summer stuff, and we were thinking of doing more in-state tourism but not any extended road-trip travel. The Euro vs Dollar thing has us thinking here (in AK) that we'll be seeing alot of overseas visitors attracted by same, keeping places here crowded/busy. Might be a good year to just sit on the deck, take a few hikes and extend our stay our stay at our remote fish camp to take advantange of that quietude. Or we could welcome visitors.... | |

Randy, I checked the exact same station from 5/14/2004 and the price for Premium is now $3.90. The price has gone up 82% in 4 years. Helluva deal if you happen to own oil stocks.

| That is correct, wiml. Back in late, late 90s when oil was $10/barrel, remember those days?!? Anyway, I stocked up on a bunch of oil drillers, oil pipeline firms, etc... Those stocks were trading in the $4-10 range. Hard to believe, huh. I made out well on those stocks as the price started going up. But, who knew??? If I would have held even for a few more years, forget holding until now, I would not have to work anymore. But, I did sell way earlier than I should have ... so, I still work 9-to-5. :-)
The hardest part of the stock market is not knowing when to buy, but when to sell. And, if you see your stock(s) moving up, it is hard to have the patience & the will to keep holding. Always afraid it will fall back & wipe out all the gains or worse...
I still think back @ the days about 10 years ago when I had all those oil firms in my portfolio. Why I ever sold, I don't know. | | | |
