"The Borgias." Real life is sometimes so much more entertaining than fiction.

Heat: An Amateur's Adventures as Kitchen Slave, Line Cook, Pasta-Maker, and Apprentice to a Dante-Quoting Butcher in Tuscany
by Bill Buford

tells how hard it is to be a chef and shows you a completely different Mario Batali than you see on the food channel!

A Year in the Merde by Stephen Clarke
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is .ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon.

Clive Cussler - Khan's Treasure - ok, not great for Cussler
Nelson DeMille - Wildfire - love DeMille - this one is a B+
Bill Bennett - America, the Last Best Hope - very good and worth reading

Just started the new Stephen King, Lisey's Story. Surprisingly tough to get through.

Lisey's story was pretty good. Now I'm on Swan Song by Robert McCammon. Kind of a post nuclear war epic like The Stand. 1,000 pages. I'm almost 1/2 way through and it's prettty good. Also just finished the latest Gregory Iles book, True Evil. Great book, love his writing style.

He has written a lot of books. If I was going to read one to see if I like it, which one should I read?

What a great book. It is much like the Stand but maybe even more bleak. Great characters.

I've been checking out some of the Submarine thrillers, most recently by Michael DiMercurio (e.g. Voyage of the Devilfish) and Mark Joseph (e.g. To Kill the Potemkin). While Joseph's works are more dated, they are better written.

I highly recommend all his books. Try The Quite Game to start, then maybe Mortal Fear. They are so well written.

... picked up my Torah translation again. Reading about the Tabernacle and Ritual instructions. Exodus is one of the most unusual books I've ever read.
