We married off daughter T-Rep on Saturday evening. Aside from the fact that the ceremony had to be inside instead of being on a terrace overlooking the Mall in Washington, DC, the event came off spectacularly well. The last six months coming up to the wedding day were filled with drama...caterer #1's building burning down to the ground...subsequently getting "fired" by caterer #1...my ex-wife not-so-subtly giving my wife Saundra a hard time...inviting 150 people to attend a wedding in a location that could only accommodate 120 people...etc. In the end, it all came off great!
After reviewing the budget for the wedding and the wine, we ultimately took the QPR route and had the following...
2007 Spier Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa
2006 Poggio San Pietro Toscana Aziende Piazzini
2007 La Vuelta Unoaked Chardonnay from Argentina
Not bad choices for people who more than likely wouldn't have been able to tell the price point of these wines.
The menu was...
Passed Hors D'oeuvres
Green Curry Prawns with Cilantro Lime Salsa
Crispy Eggroll Cup filled with Sesame Duck Salad
Charred Tenderloin on Crostini topped with Stilton Cream
Sweet Potato Crepe with Creme Fraiche and Avruga
Reggiano Cup filled with Tomato and Charred Red Pepper
The Main Event
Melon Soup served with a Salad of Bibb Lettuce and Mache with Ginger Vinaigrette and Lotus Chips
Roasted Halibut served on Asparagus Risotto with Saffron Sauce and Basil Oil or
Sherry Marinated Rack of Lamb with Rosemary Jus and Chevre Potato Puree
Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream
As I did with my son who got married last year, I found a birth year wine for Sara from 1980. My choices were more limited than my son who was born in 1982. I found a 750 of Chateau Climens from The Wine House in SF. Hopefully, the wine is still alive and sweet and not vinegar.
All in all, Saturday was among the best days of my life and will be remembered forever.
Thanks for allowing me to indulge myself...
