| I just read a really interesting article in Vanity Fair about the architect William McDonough. For lack of a better summary, he believes that rethinking the design process will "save the world". His message transcends politics and he's shown his powerpoint presentation to the White House, NASA, GM, and Google among other entiies.
His book is Cradle to Cradle. It's going to the top of my must read list. Here's the link to his site:

| | Beer and Philosophy - A compendium of articles about beer from a bunch of points of view. I found some of the articles more interesting than other - some were written a little too much like research papers. One that stood out (in a good way) was an article by Garrett Oliver about the authenticity of food. His discussion comparing Kraft slices and cheese was particularly interesting. | |

| Just finished A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. This is the third book that I've read by him. What I've found is that he's a great researcher, but doesn't offer a lot of original thought and insight.
My wife thought this was LOL funny, which is why I picked it up.

I did! I thought it had a good balance of information, social commentary and comic relief. All taken in the spirit of a simple and entertaining read. Finished it on my flight home from Chicago yesterday. Now off to the library to pick up another title for this week(s).

Being more right of center myself I obviously took issue with several of his points in the book but I must admit I found him to be fair and open minded about all of his points and tried to balance things out. The book itself is very well written. Barack has a good command of the English language that translates well to the written form. Interesting read. | |

| | Just finished reading "Night" by Elie Wiesel. This quick read was not profound for the level of Elie’s writing in his first book. Although well written it was basically a straightforward narrative from beginning to end based on his life’s events during this horrific period of history. It was profound and quite disturbing based solely on the subject matter itself: treatment of himself and his fellow Jews by the Nazis while interred at Auschwitz and Buchenwald. It is recommended as a required reading to once again remind us how horrible man can truly be to one another and how we must always be vigil against such travesties occurring again even today. | |
