Hi there!

I just splurged and bought a few bottles of the '01 and '04 Quilceda Creek Cab, along with some '05 Baumard QdC Anyhow, I don't really know much about Quilceda Creek. The guy who sold me the bottles just raved about them and said that it's a great wine and the '02 and '03 had received 100 points from Rovani, so I figured that it sounded good. Since then, I've done some research and found that while many people love these wines, but some others hate them. I tried one of the '01's the other day and thought it was great, but I don't want to open an '04 yet, as I only have two.

So, has anyone tried the '04 Quilceda Creek Cabernet? Is it any comparison to the 100 point rated 2002 or 2003? I saw that Stephen Tanzer only gave it 94-96 points. Was 2004 a good year in Washington? I really hope this is a good wine and I didn't get tricked into buying something that isn't worth it. I know how some wineries have a great year or two and then flop the year after. I guess there is no way this wine will get 100 points since the '02 and '03 did. They would never give three 100 point scores in a row, right?

Also, how do these wines age? Do people think that they have the structure to age well? Are older vintages of Quilceda Creek good wines?

Thanks to those in the know. I'm still learning! Ciao!

I haven't tried the 2004 yet but I have some in the cellar. QC is my one of my verticals going back to 1999 (nobody laugh OK, you have to start somewhere).

The wines age very well and have the structure to do so. There was a winemaking style change from the early 90s to now (not really sure the exact year 1998?). Recent vintages are different but the verdict is still out about long-term aging.

The 2004 probably won't receive 100 points again. Tanzer gave it 93-96 points FWIW.

Good buy and enjoy the wines.

I recently had a 1996 that  still needed time to fully integrate.

I had the '04 at the Capitol Grille in Nashville last month.  It is a great wine, similarly styled to the '03.  The '04 had plenty of supple sweet tannins that do not get in the way of near term drinking but should age well.

If I only had 2 bottles, I'd drink one in the next 1-2 years and then wait another 8+ years to try the other.

Jenny, smart move on the '05 Baumard.  I had the '04 Quilceda Creek at a double blind tasting recently.  It was one of the lowest scoring wines of the night (to add insult to injury, the theme was bottles over $100 and bottles under $20 so the competition was mixed).  That said, I think that all of the QCs will be great wines with enough time in the bottle.  I tend to like my wines with a lot of age so that no doubt colors my thinking.
