Had the 1990 a few weeks ago but unfortunately one of worst discoveries, it was corked.

from Jan 2005

Vega Sicilia Unico, 1990

VERY interesting wine, it changes with every pour!
At first, 5 mins from decantor it smelled like barnyard.
Than, as the evening progressed, more complex nose AND tastes came into play,
including chalk. We enjoyed it.
WS rating : 91, mine 94

Last had the '94 back in the fall of '05. It's a monumental wine, imo. Lots of black cherries, forest, cassis, tobacco, leather, mineral. Very rich and long with big but ripe tannins. One of the best young wines I had all last year. I was lucky enough to be given a bottle that won't see the light of day for at least ten years.

Thanks to all for TNs. I have always wanted to try them, but price can be prohibitive as you know. The 1994 sounds awesome.

Is $300 a good price for the 1994?

It can be had on pre-arrival from Premier Cru for $240. Of course, who knows what pre-arrival means when dealing with them.

Based upon that wine's reputation, I would say $300 doesn't sound out of line; based upon prices I have seen over the years, I know I've seen better and $300 sounds a little high -- but, of course, years have gone by since its initial release so $300 may be correct now.

I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland.

Thanks, Whiner. If you or anyone else has a lead on the 1994 outside of PC for around $250, please let me know.

If your patient, Zachy's will probably have it on sale for around $240 or less sometime in the future.
