I'm thinking of popping one of these on Sunday. Anyone tried this yet? Decanting advice?

I would wait a few years on this one. All the decanting in the world is not going to allow this hugh wine to show well enough, and you might be disappointed. Give it a good 4-5 years. At that point, you will be glad you waited!

The '97 is one of the best wines I've ever tasted. Unbelievably good. Sadly, the only Abreu I've ever had.

Pizinah,
actually, you started at the top. we will see what happens when the 01 comes around, but at the moment there are none better than the 97. That said - there are many other vintages that are quite good, just not better than the 97.

The '97 totally blew me away. I don't think I've had another wine that was hitting on all cylinders in quite the same way. Really deep, distinctive flavors but perfectly and seamlessly balanced and pure. Really amazing. We tasted it in the context of a wine dinner with 7 or 8 other fairly high-end 90s cal cabs and it was so far ahead of the pack it was ridiculous, truly in a league of its own. Parker's blunt comment pretty much sums it up: "The wine smells and tastes perfect."
